i am indeed referring to them. i know there's some sugar and......whatever else added, but essentialy the oats are still available.

you'd better eat plain regular old fashioned oatmeal
and add cinnamon (with splenda/aspartam if you want)

I haven't eaten much oatmeal, but I think I'm going to start. This is not the first place I've heard people talk highly of oatmal in their diet. Is it that good for losing fat? It's real cheap. I have to give it a shot. I think it has enough fiber in it for me since I don't eat many apples, but I do take a fiber supplement.

Oatmeal is an excellent low glycemic carbohydrate choice....but the instant/flavored varieties (as noted above) contain too many simple sugars - thereby defeating the purpose of ingesting a low glycemic food....

Depending on your goals - you're better off sticking with products where the only ingredient is: oats!!

Old fashioned oats are great, the instant kind have too much sugar. It's my primary carb source when dieting.

Not all of the instant kinds (even in the little packages) have sugar in them. Most "instant" oatmeal is just regular oats that have been rolled longer so they cook faster.

Quaker also makes plain instant oatmeal in the individual packages. A buddy of mine bought one of those Quaker variety oatmeal packs and assumed the package that said "Plain" was still flavored like the others. He was wrong. He got plain instant oatmeal. Good, good comedy.

The instant quaker oats that are flavored taste amazing. But, they have tons of sugar so you might as well just eat something that tastes even better with the same amount of sugar and other crap in it.

Enjoy life and have some sugar. I eat both. The packets for breakfast and then regular oatmeal with some spice and/or dried fruit (or blueberries) for some meals later in the day. I have no problem cutting or bulking with my instant oatmeal breakfast. Enjoy life and don't cut yourself off too much. That would be like going out to eat and always ordering a glass of water and a salad (with nothing but lowfat dressing or better yet, vinegar!!).
