Originated as a term used by hackers to describe gaining possession of a system, having hacked a box and got root they basically control it as much as if it was theirs, thus it could be considered owned by them.

Yep, anthrax is right. People just played with the word and made pwned with the meaning being what I stated above.

It arose from the simple typo of hitting 'p' instead of 'o'. Nothing to do with sex unless you accept the view that all of life revolves around sex.
