Please Scroll Down to See Forums Below hrm... i'm not getting in to a genre based debate. Emo is an offshoot of punk and has warped throughout the last 10 yrs. I will therefore make the mistake of classifying screamo/emo bands as punk from time to time. This does not necessarily make it wrong, but does envoke a violent reaction in some people who have very low self esteem and have to place all of their pride in their musical taste. Like the people u speak of debaser. Worry not, a huge part of me is still down with the real shit.

what exactly is emo/screamo, any big name bands like this. Im horrible when it comes to classifying?
Emo essentially branched out from punk music back in the minor threat days. It has morphed HUGELY since then and many incorrectly place bands like thE Ataris and New Found Glory in the Emo category. There is always an ongoing debate as to whether bands like Dashboard are emo... In the end, it doesn't really matter. You can identify with any group you like and still listen to whatever music floats your boat.

Going to branch off topic somewhat to say that "screamo" might just be the dumbest genre name ever. Try and use it in a serious conversation, you will surely fail.
