Yup....But the Stoli is the only thing helping...the PAXIL makes me worse....Watch out Italy...LOL

oh man. PTSD is kinda what my other thread was about. i experience flashbacks and mental images all the time. i used to think it was only in regards to war (which i assume yours is) but it applies to anything that is traumatic to the conscious mind and your emotional framework.

very sorry brosky :(
its why i could never go to war. not only do you have to deal with the imminent danger, but the longlasting impact of it all. its why i have alot of respect for soldiers

Not a good way to cope though, trust me on that one. are you in italy now?

paxil sucks though. might want to try a diff. med

See a doc, bro.

Someone to talk to helped me quite a bit in retrospect.

Now the only time I get the bad thoughts is when I see a blaque. And that was the way I was before I enlisted.

Lemme know when you wanna have a conversation about that
I figured you had issues, but was wondering when you'd say it
lol you know Im just joshin bro.

I was timing how long it would take you to show up.

I dunno.
You might wanna keep that to yourself or atleast talk under the table about that
The only thing you're gonna get is put on a list where you can't buy firearms. The VA isn't doing much to treat this at all....

Eh maybe its different today than it was 5 years ago, but I got some help I needed. I also followed it up with someone to talk to I found personally outside of the system.

Gah, Russian swill, Wyborova is where it's at.

PTSD is treated by VA hospitals all the time. Navy Hospital Pensacola and the VA clinic both have patients with it. There is also outreach through your various service officers at the American Legion, VFW and AMVets. Get off your political high horse, GJohnson, we take care of our own.

Hey bro...I'm hoping the shit will subside in a week or so....It's just a weird felling to turn off the INFANTRY mind set....Glad to see you are still around.
:Chef: :tuc:
p.s......are GJohnson and 75th still at each others throats?.....lol

LOL No we've kinda kissed and made up

Anyway I can relate to the INFANTRY mindset, but you do need to turn that off. Some guys just have more trouble with that then others. Not sure how its fixed ... All I know is the VA despite what some say , it's anywhere near as much as a help as they should. But then again they're attending to many many people who have been injured and they're spread thin as well.

Anyway keep ya head up

gjohnson5 said:
But on a lighter note , look at 75th avatar

How can you help not wanting to kiss him?

Yes , HOMO

LOL

posting this kind of shit on an internet forum makes you sound really stupid. i sincerely hope you are being honest and not just being another countless internet war vet/hero.

either which way

yeah...i am very surprised congress ended up passing that tripe.

this is only going to give way to more and more people not getting themselves the treatment they need.

however, most people i know who need help for ptsd are not the types who label themselves 'a killer', boast about their so-called inherent drinking ability due to their job profession, brag about attending a 3 week course, etc, etc, etc.

if you truly have ptsd, go get help. i know they offered it numerous times while in theater and before, during, and after the demob process.

hinting at having a drinking problem and not being able to 'turn off the infantry' on an internet forum just makes you sound like a tool.

and yes, i too am in combat arms, and i also *just* got back from iraq.

I had the same attitude back in the day. He does need to seek counseling and if his post gets him there good for him.I've been an advocate for Veteran's since I returned from Desert Storm; He's not seeking help because he thinks he knows better....let go of the pride.

I think that I understand where you are coming from but here is what I think is the bottom line.

More than likely there is some confusion because this is the first time returning, it took me at least 6 months the first time to feel "normal" back home. If he feels there is more to it than just integration then he needs to get help. He needs to be the one to determine where that line is. I've never crossed it to where I need help but know it is there and am prepared if/when I need to. Somethings even a strong mind can't sort out.

I'm not looking for sympathy or anything like that. I have always been open on EF....and it's been awhile since I have been very active here.....15 months to be exact....so the shit going on with me right now is this re-integration shit(which I hope will suside in a few weeks or so), I went to a buddies memorial three days ago(9 of them got hemmed up by a hundred dudes)....and not being able to drink for so long....Yes booze is with every meal...so fuck it.
:Chef: :tuc:

Ya that shit sucks but I think you will come around. I know I did and I also know that I am a stronger person today because of it. Just be patient with it and understand that view points are going to be different for you than those around you, they haven't had to deal with what you have for the last year. I think after you get back off of leave and are around the guys more you won't feel the distance you are probably feeling right now. Seriously just be patient with it and keep working it out like you are.

Are you going to selection yet? lol

11b is a rough job... but it sounds like you're doing the right thing. Hang with your buds. Work things out amongst each other. Probably the best medicine you can be given
