Hi
Have you ever noticed that in all the magazines, the screenshots for PS2 games always look better than they do when you eventually play the game!?
Well, I know a way to get the games looking the way they do in the mags.
When you first switch the PS2 on, open the disc tray, this will bring up the menu screen. Press triangle and you'll bring up an options list. Go down it with the D-Pad until you come to PlayStation Driver and press X to bring it's submenu up. You will then see Texture Mapping, using the D-Pad and X set this to Smooth.
Quit the menu and go into Browser, put your disc in and launch the game from there. You should now notice a marked improvement in the resolution of the game graphics and they will now look as good as the screenshots.
I first did this with GT3 and was blown away by the difference it made. The reflection mapping and lighting effects were stunning. The textures were richer and objects seemed more solid. The other thing I noticed were the fully transparent windows. It may seem a laborious process, but once you see what a difference it makes you'll do it every time!
I really want some feedback on this as it's something I think Sony would rather we didn't know about. Also, I really want to hear from owners of the + model ie the one without the i-link as since the revamp I've not been able to find out whether or not you can do what I've been describing.
Have fun guys!
