I just didn't know what they are used for or if they will help me surf porn. I guess they are for people wanting to post pics and vids or something?

In real short terms, using a proxy server, you can hide your IP address.
You can surf the web anonymously basicly. There's alot more, but that the most basic function.
Too use one, do a google search with proxy+server+tutorial+[browser name here] (prolly IE)
Put numbers in LAN settings, test it to make sure the server is responding, if it works, your using a proxy server. Pretty simple. PM me for questions.

Also the feds and other gov't agencies install proxy servers to gain traffic for detecting and following "illegal" activities. What better way to get people trying to hide things within plain view and monitoring?

If you don't get 404's surfing, then it's working.

Yeah, I entered it into the internet option>proxy>automatic>etc, etc. Is there any limit to how long you can use it at a time?

I don't puruse porn sites so that is of no concern to me. Having the feds sponsoring a proxy IS of concern to me.
