The old axium is a myth....especially if you train in the evenings....but, it all depends on what you eat also, for bulking, there really is no bad time to eat...just what you eat...after training, your metabolism is high, so even if you eat, you will process it just fine...and you need your protein after you train anyhow correct...protein anytime will not kill you as long as you are doin it per you body requirements and not crapping it out all day...set yourself up a midnight snack before you go to bed so if you want to eat something late you can...if it is just standard eating after 9 p.m. you will be fine, just remember to eat the right portions and good food.
