protein question

I was wondering if someone could tell me what would protein shakes do if I took them as well as my meals but didnt workout not as a meal replacement. Would you get bigger and grow more muscle, would you lose fat...what exactly would happen does anyone know or would nothing happen at all?

i take a shake when im not in a mood to make a meal or i i dont have any pre- meals made. its an easy way to get your protein/ carbs and good fats in quickly... the shakes should count as a meal. but if your takin just a protein shake, your getting more protein.. and unless your not working out , you will be sparing your muscles and hopefully gaining new muscle.. depends on what your are doing, cutting, maintaining or bulking.

Well what if I'm not working out at all...only reason I'm asking this question is cause a friend of mine has been working out for a while now and he is finding it hard to workout with him being in med school. He simply doesnt have the time now to workout. So I'm wondering if you would benefit at all by taking protein shakes even though you arent working out at all.

gotcha.... well your need at least 1 gram of protein per body pound... so a 200 lbs man needs at least 200 grams of protein to maintain or gain muscle , preferably more.
if your friend is talking a break, 1-2 weeks then yes, that would be a great way to get the protein.. . but if he is not going to work out for another month or 2 or more.. then he is going to loose some muscle/weight. if he can get in at least 2 days a week of training the whole body, that would be better.
