Protein ingestion spacing

I don't know where, but I got it in my head that my body can only effectively "use" 10g of protein an hour. So after I eat a can of tuna, I wait 3 hours to eat a protein bar, or eat my dinner, or whatever. Same goes for between shakes (wait 2 hours). But that makes it damn hard to get all my protein in in one day. Then I hear about guys eating 50g meals 2.5 hours apart. Am I on crack here or what? How long should I be waiting between "meals"? How long should I give my body to use x amt of protein?

The short answer is that your body will most often use most of the protein you injest in one meal. Don't worry about it. Just eat normal, high-protein meals and you'll be fine.

Yes sir, you are on crack!! :D

Kidding - listen to gymtime - he knows his stuff....

Your body is more than capable of utilizing more than 10g of protein per hour....I remember a debate about this very issue once - and I'm not sure it was ever resolved....but I seem to remember the question being raised as to how it could ever be accurately assessed as to how much protein the body is actually capable of processing at one sitting (and of course it will depend on many factors - e.g., body weight, metabolism speed, etc.,)...

So I always shoot for a meal that has anywhere from 20 - 50 grams of protein - and I usually eat every two hours....it seems to be working.....
