Protein Bar Recipe?

Jayhawk21

I would really like to find a recipe to make protein/energy bars so I could take them on the go with me. They are very convenient but yet very expensive. I've heard you can make good ones very cheap if you do it yourself. Any suggestions or recipes posted on the web?

I'm not really fan of bars (basically, because the key ingredient to make them stick together is some sort of High GI carb).

anyway, I've been following this girl log for some time, she has done some amazing job AND have some bar recipes in her site. She normally follows an isocaloric type of diet, so the bars are OK for most people, as a meal replacement.

Give her a try. http://maggiewang.com/2004/09/09/lots-of-bfl-recipes/

WTF!!! This is even better. the sister of the girl above (who always experimented with bars and recipes) now have her own site dedicated to recipes.

Great resource people!! http://rice-candy.com/?cat=3

I made this one before.. its not a SET recipe but it depends on what protein you use. If you can get protein powder that is for baking/cooking that would be better but I used just 100% whey (chocolate).

2 cups oatmeal
4oz nuts (what ever you like---I used cashews and peanuts) OR 4TBS NPB
4 scoops of protein powder
12-16 pckts splenda
..... mix together with water or milk (water is better since it would be able to stay out of the fridge for more than 4hrs).

You have to mix it slowly & keep adding water b/c if you add too much it will be sticky. After it is 'firm", either roll into balls or push down onto a pan covered with wax paper. Refrigerate. Makes 4 servings with the amounts I use. You can double them or whatever.... sometimes I use dried fruit (cranberries) and strawberry protein powder. When I make the protein balls I freeze them and then eat them later.
