I was thinking about getting my concealed handgun license but after reviewing the state laws here it seems pretty worthless.

If someone were to jump me or pose a deadly threat to me I could not use deadly force against them w/o getting charged with 3rd degree murder.

I also would not be allowed to randomly shoot bad drivers.

is it worth it?

Funny you mention this....Hubby and I are attending CCW classes here in Ohio.

I guess I'll find out what the laws are then. 12 hour class.

Id rather be judged by 12 then carried by 6.

how much is it there?

the class costs 100$ here but then to apply for the license it's another 400$. plus I don't own a gun so I'll spend about a grand for it all but if the law every gets overturned I'll be grandfathered in

Ahhhh. A Vet. Thanks for your service!

I guess putting your ass on the line they figured they could give you at least something. Right?

I think its because prior military/law enforcement already know weapons handleing SOP'S.

Yeah, they have to run all kinds of background checks on us too. ( Nothing to hide on this end)

The shooting part will be easy, I've been around guns a long, long time. Hubby got me shooting w/him.I'm a better aim in fact. Pisses him off!

I'll be able to use the CCW in my line of work too. I work for a women's/children's shelter here in Tol. I've seen some nasty men come lookin for their "property"(if you know what I mean.)

Exactly

I have one, so does my other half as do most of our friends.

When traveling we're always prepared to "stop at the range" for some practice time.

My weapon is in my pants.

Yes.

My parents house was broken into 3 times even though they lived in fairly affluent area and in the late 70's early 80's my father was the target of Pro-Life extremists (disclaimer - I said "extremists" do not misunderstand me), baby parts came delivered via UPS, he had a bodyguard that had to escorted him from his car to his office and then back to his car, it was a scary time growing up. There were doctor killings at that time - he's childhood friend and colleague was murdered in his own house walking in living room. Our house was fort knox, I wasn't allowed anywhere, there were panic buttons on all floors and later my father applied and received his licence and both of my parents were taught how to shoot.

He hasn't had any use for it to date but the few hours he does sleep he can.

whoa. I know this has nothing to do with the topic ; but where the hell do you exactly get something like that??? Wow.

At the time, they would infiltrate the clincs and get jobs there and steal...

Well, you know where I'm going.

"Guns don't kill people, I kill people"..... That was too funny.

I have my concealed weapons permit for Oregon and Washington, which is also recognized in some twenty something other states. I rarely carry though. I have a .45, .38, and 12 gage.

Yeah, STDs can be deadly.

lolololo

I was thinking about a .45 or a .357

I've been told if you are gonna get one get a big one!

it works for 12 gauges? I thought it was for handguns only.. how the fuck can you conceal a 12 gauge?

No, those are just the guns I own.

for range shooting which do you like best.. the .38 or .45?

also if a large black man were to break into my house which would be the most effective .. the .38 or .45? or is that why you have the 12 gauge?

I love my .45, but its too big to carry around with you. 12 gage out of the 3 has the best stopping power, most don't realize the small percentage of those who die after being shot with a handgun. And if someone breaks into your home and you plan on shooting them, you'd better make sure they're dead.

if someone broke into my house and I shot them and killed them, I would go to prison for murder UNLESS they had a gun.. these laws are dumb.. I wonder if I shot and wounded him if I would get charged w/ attempted murder?

I don't really want a gun to carry around w/ me, I already have 2 :p

Just something to shoot at the range .. think I'll do the .357

Never ever ever ever ever ever bring your gun out unless your life is in immediate danger and you know you HAVE to pull the trigger.

No, you wouldn't automatically go to prison if they didn't have a gun, but they better had posed a threat to you. If someone is breaking into your home they want you to say stuff like, "STOP! ARMED CITIZEN!" and so forth to neutralize the situation without violence. If you ever shoot someone, even if entering your home illegally, dead or alive it will financially destroy you.

Didn't hurt me that much.

Damn. I didn't know you meant people only.

Depends. I for one don't put much faith into greater society's best judgement, being that I probably think more people deserve to die than most people do. I'd hate to be rotting in prison surrounded mostly by scum for doing what I considered the right thing.

Needless to say, how ironic.

You must be able to relate to the movie Panic Room huh.

Only problem is the mess it leaves. Those stains'd be a bitch to get out. I'd have everything covered in plastic, Patrick Bateman-style.
