Proof we've already been through this Swine Flu phase b4

thousands of people die every year from regular-ass flu.
not concerned.

Yep usually between 30,000-40,000 each year in the U.S., usually the old and very young.

CDC - Influenza (Flu) | What Everyone Should Know About Flu and the Flu Vaccine

"Every year in the United States, on average:

5% to 20% of the population gets the flu;
more than 200,000 people are hospitalized from flu-related complications; and
about 36,000 people die from flu-related causes.

Some people, such as older people, young children, and people with certain health conditions (such as asthma, diabetes, or heart disease), are at high risk for serious flu complications."

Yeah, but isnt this flu different because it seems to strike the young and healthy people?

Initial reports seem to indicate that those suffering from this type of flu outside of Mexico are only exhibiting relatively moderate symptoms.

Flu claims 12-15'000 people a year in the UK. If this goes pandemic initial toll is predicted at 50'000.

I get the flu every other year. It gets everyone eventually.

Do you really? Damn, I have only had it once in my life..

yeah it looks like its not gonna be a big deal. They really made it out to be something worse than what it was.... kinda scared me a little to be honest

I think this is so way overblown it is becoming just silly. My daughter's sport tournament just got cancelled for this weekend. What??? Do we cancel school during normal flu outbreaks.

And how about that VP of ours. Way to give a nice boost to the airline industry.

With all that being said, the big threat has always been that the bird flu will merge with a swine flu before there is a vaccine for the bird flu. In that case, I have seen estimates that it could wipe out up to 20% of the worlds population.

The big issue is the bird flu is only spread by contact with you guessed it, infected birds. The "swine" flu is spread from people to people. If you get the bird flu, which is very deadly, to mutate to a virus that spreads from people to people = very bad shit.

From what I understand about the bird flu, before the bird flu mutates to humans, it will mutate to pigs first, once it mutates to pigs, then it won't be long before it mutates to humans.

yea, but hey, its got a really cool sinister name "swine flu", and therefore rediculious amounts of fear must be instilled.

I only had the flu ONE TIME in my life. Interestingly enough it was the year I got a flu vaccine. And no, it wasn't an immediate general sense of malaise from the vaccine. It was full-blown, I wanted to die, couldn't get up off the couch for 5 days with a temperature of 105 sick several months after the vaccination.

Never again will I get another vaccination against the flu.
