Prescription Meds.

Genuinely: my buddy has just failed a drug test for his next contract on the Cruise ships.
He had traces of Amphetamine.
He was told that if he could tell them of a presciption which could have caused this, he would be fine.
Does anyone know of any precription meds which would cause a positive for Amphetamine on a test?
Thanx,

are you serious? 89745656498 of Rx's and OTC crap cause false positives:
and yes, pseudoephedrine, along with eph and its derivatives in OTC meds (sudafed, etc) cause it; others that yield a high propensity of false positive: dexatrim (phenylpropanolamine), dexedrine (this IS pharmaceutical speed), adderall, ritalin, phentermine (and other prescription weight loss), dopaminergics/maoi's (l-dep, some others).
fuck, I can't get no sleep :bawling:

also, amps don't last long in the body (like up to a week or something) - so wtf was your bud thinking if he had a test coming up?

Tell him to claim that he has ADD/HD (whutevr) and he has to take ritalin/adderall (they might ask for script tho) :o

Good question,....

I always wondered id "Clen" showed up as..

Or "Ephedrine,"... or even "Yohimbee????"

info appreciated...

good post!

You are so right. All of those meds and so many more can cause false positives. He needs to get a list of all his meds together and then figure out which one caused the false positive test.

The same went for the military, if you took any medication, otc, or otherwise you needed to document it and keep the bottle, script, box of otc. This way if you popped on a piss test you had proof that you were not "crack smoking".

best bet is to find an OTC drug that would cause drug test failure and claim he was taking that.

i would NOT tell them the name of a perscription drug unless i had a script for it - ie - i could PROVE it was perscribed to me by a legit doctor. if you cant' do that, don't even bother trying to say "i was on this drug" because they're going to want to see proof.

find out what test was used. false positives will vary depending on how they conducted the test. there are a few things that can come up as speed, but be wary that they may retest looking for the drug you claimed to be taking, with a more specific test

he should demand a retest at any rate. errors do occur in the lab sometimes

cheers
