Hey. I just saw this.

Pre-filtering is an excellent idea to keep your .2 mic filter working better for more quantity of oil.

If you have some real filter paper, just place it on top of the attached filter in your bottle-top filter unit. Anything from a 1 micron pore size and up. If you don't have real filter paper, you can use a coffee filter but it doesn't help nearly as much.

This will work for a Buchner funnel also. Just layer the filters starting with smallest pore size on bottom, on top of that anything from .5micrometer to about 1 micrometer, on top of that finish with a 2 to 5 micrometer filter.

I know it sounds like it would get expensive, but the larger the pore size the cheaper the filter paper. And since you are getting so much more life from your most expensive one, it actually ends up being much cheaper.

Of course this is assuming you have a LOT to filter often. If you only occasionally have a small amount, you are probably better off not spending $150-$200 on various filer paper.

Why is his stuff clumping so much? Seems a little odd.

It can be any thing from insoluble contaminants in the powder, to dust in the air, to impurities in the oil, etc.

.2 micrometer pores are unfathomably small. It doesn't take much to clog up. Even something as small as 1/1000th of 1mm^2 (1 square micrometer) will clog 25 pores.

But honestly I think people don't have enough patience sometimes, and it isn't actually the filter at all. It is just the assumption that "it should filter faster, damnit!" I've been there too. You just need to go slow and steady.
