Pre-stretching

I've been hearing a lot recently that there is no real benefit to stretching pre workout. I do it myself, for the psychological reasons if nothing else. Does anyone have any ideas or evidence either way?

There are some varying opinions on this but I lean toward the active stretching more these days [after warm up doing things like step under hurdles (for legs and hips), using very light weight to stretch into the lowest squat position, carioca, etc....] I do use just a bit of more conventional static stretching, but I think it has been shown that drectly stretching a muscle lowers its max capacity by a significant percentage directly afterward (try stretching your back lats in between bench sets- you will notice less resistance)
 
I always stretch pre- and during workout. I have found that pre-workout has helped me improved my flexibility in a favourable %.
