powerful songs

Lao Tzu

New member
any songs you can name that have a powerful effect, either based on the lyrics or the music? i find 'stay together for the kids' by blink 182 to be pretty powerful.

A newer song that I like that no one has heard...... "One Last Breath" by Creed........ on the new album.. I can't believe it hasn't been on the radio yet..... best song on the whole album

Andrea Bocelli and Sarah Brightman... Time to Say Goodbye

Its mostly in Italian... but the song is beautiful..... and you can only imagine what the words mean....... very sad and moving.. I recommend that you dowload it............

Enjoy The Silence

Words like violence
Break the silence
Come crashing in
Into my little world
Painful to me
Pierce right through me
Can't you understand
Oh my little girl

All I ever wanted
All I ever needed
Is here in my arms
Words are very unnecessary
They can only do harm

Vows are spoken
To be broken
Feelings are intense
Words are trivial
Pleasures remain
So does the pain
Words are meaningless
And forgettable

All I ever wanted
All I ever needed
Is here in my arms
Words are very unnecessary
They can only do harm

The Replacements........... Answering Machine

Try to breathe some life into a letter
Losing hope, never gonna be together
My courage is at it's peak
You know what I mean
How do say you're O.K. to
An answering machine?
How do you say good night to
An answering machine?

Big time's got its losers
Small town's got its vices
A handful of friends
One needs a match, one needs some ice
Call-waiting phone in another time zone
How do you say I miss you to
An answering machine?
How do say good night to
An answering machine?

I get enough of that

Try to free a slave of ignorance
Try and teach a whore about romance

How do you say I miss you to
An answering machine?
How do you say good night to
An answering machine?
How do you say I'm lonely to
An answering machine?
The message is very plain
Oh, I hate your answering machine
I hate your answering machine
I hate your answering machine...

Again you always have the same answer as I do, I guess that's cuz this song is the most moving, thought provoking, powerful song ever done. The fact that it's live also makes the whole experience even better.

Lightening Crashes

By Live :)

lightning crashes

lightning crashes, a new mother cries
her placenta falls to the floor
the angel opens her eyes
the confusion sets in
before the doctor can even close the door
lightning crashes, an old mother dies
her intentions fall to the floor
the angel closes her eyes
the confusion that was hers
belongs now, to the baby down the hall

oh now feel it comin' back again
like a rollin' thunder chasing the wind
forces pullin' from the center of the earth again
i can feel it.

lightning crashes, a new mother cries
this moment she's been waiting for
the angel opens her eyes
pale blue colored iris, presents the circle
and puts the glory out to hide, hide

Where Were You (When The World Stopped Turning)
By Alan Jackson

Verse:
Where were you when the world stop turning on that September day
Were you in the yard with your wife and children
Or working on some stage in L.A.
Did you stand there in shock at the sight of that black smoke
Rising against that blue sky
Did you shout out in anger, in fear for your neighbor
Or did you just sit down and cry

Did you weep for the children who lost their dear loved ones
And pray for the ones who don't know
Did you rejoice for the people who walked from the rubble
And sob for the ones left below
Did you burst out in pride for the red, white and blue
And the heroes who died just doin' what they do
Did you look up to heaven for some kind of answer
And look at yourself and what really matters

Chorus:
I'm just a singer of simple songs
I'm not a real political man
I watch CNN but I'm not sure I could
Tell you the difference in Iraq and Iran
But I know Jesus and I talk to God
And I remember this from when I was young
Faith, hope and love are some good things He gave us
And the greatest is love

Verse:
Where were you when the world stop turning on that September day
Teaching a class full of innocent children
Or driving down some cold interstate
Did you feel guilty 'cause you're a survivor
In a crowded room did you feel alone
Did you call up your mother and tell her you loved her
Did you dust off that Bible at home

Did you open your eyes, hope it never happened
And you close your eyes and not go to sleep
Did you notice the sunset the first time in ages
Or speak to some stranger on the street
Did you lay down at night and think of tomorrow
Go out and buy you a gun
Did you turn off that violent old movie you're watchin'
And turn on "I Love Lucy" reruns

Did you go to a church and hold hands with some strangers
Stand in line and give your own blood
Did you just stay home and cling tight to your family
Thank God you had somebody to love

One Voice
by Billy Gillman

Some kids have and some don't

And some of us are wondering why

Mom won't watch the news at night

There's too much stuff that's making her cry

We need some help

Down here on earth

A thousand prayers, a million words

But one voice was heard

A house, a yard, a neighborhood

Where you can ride your new bike to school

A kind of world where Mom and dad

Still believe in the golden rule

Life's not that simple

Down here on earth

A thousand prayers, a million words

But one voice was heard

One voice, one simple word

Hearts know what to say

One dream can change the world

Keep believing

Till you find a way

Yesterday while walking home

I saw some kid on newberry road

He pulled a pistol from his bag

And tossed it in the river below

Thanks for the help

Down here on earth

A thousand prayers, a million words

But one voice was heard

One voice was heard

"You Are Music" from the Kopit & Yeston version of Phantom

"By Your Side" Sade

"Hey Pig" NIN

Track 2 off the new System of a Down

"The Game" Tool

Anything by tool is powerful, but "Eulogy" is the best (push it is damn close though)

Also, Pantera "Regular People"
Clutch "Pro Rock Fury"

Live is my favorite band. This is the principal reason, their songs are powerful.

listen to 'V', much on it is epic...

Peter Gabriel...Your Eyes.

*cough*GAY*cough* :D Actually, I really like Solsbury Hill.

As for non-wussy stuff, Fight Muisc by D-12 is very well written.
Ring of Fire by Johnny Cash is another fav of mine.

Fade To Black- Metallica

Life it seems, will fade away
Drifting further every day
Getting lost within myself
Nothing matters no one else
I have lost the will to live
Simply nothing more to give
There is nothing more for me
Need the end to set me free
Things are not what they used to be

Missing one inside of me
Deathly lost, this can't be real
Cannot stand this hell I feel Emptiness is filing me
To the point of agony
Growing darkness taking dawn
I was me, but now He's gone

No one but me can save myself, but it to late
Now I can't think, think why I should even try

Yesterday seems as though it never existed
Death Greets me warm, now I will just say good-bye

The Death of Baldur (Burzum
Panzer Division Marduk (Marduk)
Ride of the Valyries (Wagner)
Mars, the Bringer of War (Holst)
Little Wing (Jimi Hendrix)
Ressurection (Fear Factory)
Street Fighting Man (Rolling Stones)
Immigrant Song (Led Zep)

Guess the song:

"When you think about death do you lose your breath or do you think that you'll rule,
Would you like to see the Pope at the end of a rope do you think he's a fool?

Yep,
Varg is still in jail and crazier than ever. He caught a 21 year sentence, the max penalty in Norway. He recently published a book called "Vargsmal". Cool reading if you can find it online.

I follow the Moskva
Down to Gorky Park
Listening to the wind of change
An August summer night
Soldiers passing by
Listening to the wind of change

The world is closing in
Did you ever think
That we could be so close, like brothers
The future's in the air
I can feel it everywhere
Blowing with the wind of change

Take me to the magic of the moment
On a glory night
Where the children of tomorrow dream away
In the wind of change

Walking down the street
Distant memories
Are buried in the past forever

I follow the Moskva
Down to Gorky Park
Listening to the wind of change

Take me to the magic of the moment
On a glory night
Where the children of tomorrow share their dreams
With you and me

Take me to the magic of the moment
On a glory night
Where the children of tomorrow dream away
In the wind of change

The wind of change blows straight
Into the face of time
Like a stormwind that will ring
The freedom bell for peace of mind
Let your balalaika sing
What my guitar wants to say

Take me to the magic of the moment
On a glory night
Where the children of tomorrow share their dreams
With you and me

Take me to the magic of the moment
On a glory night
Where the children of tomorrow dream away
In the wind of change

i loved "one last breath" by creed. I had never heard the song before, but then I saw them in concert, and immediately bought the album afterwards and found that song. I would listen to that at the gym and it would get me so incredibly pumped. Now its getting overplayed too much... shame

here are some others:
Overcome - Live
Sweetness - Jimmy Eat World
The Middle - Jimmy Eat World
poetry in the streets - necro
Time to say goodbye - andrea bocelli & sarah brightman
damn mind is blank

go download any of those songs right now and I promise you wont be let down
