If i am cutting i am wondering if i should get my post workout carbs(mostly sugar) immediatelly after workout and then hop on the tredmill for cardio or wait till i finish post workout cardio and then drink my carbs + protein. Also how many carbs would you recomend while cutting for post workout. This is a cutting cycle but not a show so....

Thanks up front, Polfa/Jelfa :D

Since you're trying to lose fat, have the carbs after the cardio (I wouldn't do more than 30-35' of cardio after a workout though). If you have them first, you will just burn them for energy instead of tapping into your fat stores. For cutting, provided you work out hard and did more than arms or something else wimpy, you can probably get away with ~50g.

Thanks for the advice, Anyone else have any ideas? Also is 45 Minutes of cardio on tred mill 5 times a week too much? it says you burn 400 cals in the sesion i do which is 45 minutes on tredmill incline medium pace.

im taking a post workout drink called Soar, made by VHT (im cutting too) its 110 carbs, 0g sugar... perfect IMO... ;)

YUM

Bro, doesn't that defeat the purpose of the drink then? You need simple sugars for insulin spike.??

I'm doing 90 minutes 7 days a week cardio and still it's not working-some pros do 3 hrs a day of cardio pre show

Some pros dont do cardio at all...whats the point..... 7 days @ 90 minutes with no effects..... your diet must be wrong:confused:

I think I would decide to be a couch potatoe instead of doing that with no results. Your diet must be screwed BAD!

So 60 g of sugar after workout and then cardio with 70 g protein i s ok? What are soem other formes of simple carbs except sugar?

Don't really know about OTHER simple carbs but here's some information on Maltodextrin:

MALTODEXTRIN
Maltodextrin is a creamy white hygroscopic powder, moderately sweet in taste. It is produced by partial hydrolysis of starch by a typical total enzyme process using a bacterial alpha-amylase followed by refining and spray-drying to a moisture level of 3% to 5%. Maltodextrin is a mixture of glucose, maltose, oligosaccharides and polysaccharides.

What is Maltodextrin used for? Infant foods

Maltodextrin is the simplest form of sugar, has a soft mouthfeel and is easily digested. This property makes its use extensive in baby foods, feed supplements, geriatric foods and foods for convalescents. It is also used as a carrying and dispersing agent for flavours and is ideally suited for encapsulation.

Beverages

Maltodextrin is popular as a flavouring, bodying and drying agent in chocolate drinks, flavour powders, special diets, citrus powders and coffee powders, besides others. It is also used to replace a portion of protein whipping agent in aerated beverages.

Instant foods

For instant foods, maltodextrin is the perfect carrying agent due to its free flexibility, open structure, dispersibility in cold water and ability to maintain clarity and eye appeal. It is, therefore, extensively used as a bodying and bulking agent in puddings, soups and frozen desserts.

Bakery products

Due to the presence of higher molecular weight saccharides, maltodextrin lends mouthfeel and body to fruit products, granola bars, cream type fillings, icings and cakes. It is also used as a moisture-holding agent in breads, pastries and meats.

Food industry

Maltodextrin is used in soup powders, concentrates and spices, spice flavour blends, cheese sauces, cream sauces, pizza sauces and salad dressings as a bodying agent, flavour enhancer, oxygen barrier, colour controller, stabilising and viscosity builder and as a spray-drying agent.

Dairy

Maltodextrin is used extensively in coffee whiteners, imitation sour creams, imitation cheeses and whipped toppings.

Confectionery

It is perfect for candy coating and soft-centre candies, for frosting and glazing, for nut and snack coating, in lozenges and for binding, plasticising and crystal inhibition. In hard candies, it improves the hygroscopic characteristics.

Pharmaceuticals

Maltodextrin is used in a variety ofpharma products. It is used in special diets, isotonic drinks, alkalisers, etc., as a nutritional supplement, for binding and density control and control of dissolving rate. It is also used in tableting, in combination with dextrin as a direct compressible vehicle.

Others

Maltodextrin is used as a moisture holding agent in breads and meats for preparing non-hygroscopic fondants and as a dispersing agent in instant drink concentrates.

There is a trade-off here.

Taking a carb/protein drink between lifting and an after-lifting cardio session, works best to help maintain or grow muscle. It also helps to prevent the possibility of a catabolic effect from the cardio workout.

The problem is that if you slam carbs into you just prior to doing the cardio - then you defeat (or lessen to a great degree) the fat-burning effects of the cardio workout.

You would still get the cardiovascular benfit (in terms of overall health and endurance training) but with a bunch of simple carbs in your system from a recent drink ... its harder to get your body to start burning fat.

For these reasons ......

This is why you hear people who are seriously cutting, seperating their lifting and cardio workouts.

Cardio on a empty stomach in the morning is THE most effective way to burn fat. You have less carbs left in your system and your body starts to burn fat more quickly into the workout, and burns more. As long as you don't go TOO hard or fast (which defeats cardio's purpose anyway) you will burn more fat on an empty stomach in the morning that if you do cardio at any other time of day.

(When we say "empty stomach" that does NOT mean "oh I will drink my super-kickass-workout-drink an hour prior so that its out of my stomach in time"...... NO........ it means you wake up, dont eat ANYTHING except maybe water, or coffee, or maybe some protein, NO carbs, and THEN go do cardio)

Then people do their lifting workout later in the day, when they CAN eat a good 1-2 hours prior so they have energy for their workout, and they can also slam a good protein/carb drink immediately afterward.

I sort of laugh at people who sit their and sip on their workouts drinks while doing cardio - it kinda defeats the purpose. Yeah, I know, after a good 20-30 minutes of cardio at certain heart rate levels that the body will switch to fat burning to some degree, but jeez ...... you cant help but feel that this is much MORE effective if you are not sipping on sugar at the same time!

Anyway, this is my understanding of how this all works. If I am wrong, I am not one of these pussy-boys who whines or turns into a dick if someone disputes it - its all about learning. So, ...... comments?

More karma! More karma! Little boys keep dropping my karma when I tell them to stop chatting about their cars and their spring break plans on the Anabolic board, so help me out here!

Riker...GREAT POST BRO.....TO tell you the truth i knew almost all this but i just wanted to see if someone said the same thing.....I AM RELIEVED NOW...i was looking for some back up in my mind that what i thought was correct. Your 100% on point bro. I figure if i do the cardio after workoing out it will be catabolic becouse my body will be begging for nutrients which it will not get for 45 minutes.....other way the carb drink defies cardio... I just was lookin into and delaying the inevitable bro..but now YOU got me there ..you basicaly reafirmed what i knew but DID NOT WANT TO ADMIT......... I VE GOT TO START DOING CARDIO IN THE MORNING...:bawling: ... and then train at night....like ussual.. That way my body will recover etc... and still be burning fat...
Btw heres some karma for you..for giving me that kick in the ass to wake up and do the damn cardio in the morning :D
