Post Workout Carb Questions

After my lifting and running session I usually take in about 46 grams of whey and about 30-40 grams of simple sugars. I usually eat ice cream or some type of junk food to get an insulin spike. I know there must be better things for me to take post workout for carbs. What do u guys use?

hi IJ26

After workout i have beeing using dextrose, about 50 grs and whey (44grs). Eventually a mix of dextrose and maltodextrine could be better.
Right now i am cutting and think i will try now a mix of dextrose (20grs) and oats (30 grs) , getting the same amount of carbs but with lower GI (i think the GI of the mixture will be something like the sum of both divided by two).
Simple sugar is not good for replenish muscle glicogen, as far as i know.

I take 50g of protein with around 85 carbs post workout. 50 of my carbs come from maltodextrin in my shake and I also dump a can of yogurt in there with it. I also put glutamine peptides in my post workout shake. I mix this with half 2% milk and half water and it makes about 600 calories. I would get some dextrose to put in with your protein if I were you. It is very inexpensive and has little taste.

you can't beat...

4 scoops of grape ultra-feul
2 scoops of strtawberry 0-carb Isopure
300mg r-ALA
16oz cold water
(creatine and glutamine if your into that sort of thing)

this will make you one happy camper. Tastes great, no fat, 100g maltodextrin, 50g of whey, AND its nice and thin so you you don't have to choke it down like some of those thick-ass wieght gainers. I cant wait to have mine tonight.....

Either way, avoid drinks with fat post workout (milk and ice cream for example) as they'll slow the protein absorption
