How long do you wait to eat after your workout?
Some would wait 30 min before eating anything or drinking any protein shake?
What's your take and what are your arguments?

there has just been a thread about it

IMO you have to wait until your digestion is mostly finished (2-3 hours)

all the blood in the stomach (for the digestion) is not used for pumping iron

You missunderstood my question as I wasn't reffering to the pre workout meal . My question is: how long after the workout one have to wait before he eats ?

I would consume immediately after workout 75-100mg of Dextrose, with about 40-50 grams of Whey and 300mg of r-ALA or 600-900mg of ALA. Then wait about an hour and then eat your meal. Hands down this is the best that works for me. For your meal, I would go with a ratio like 60 protien, 30% carbs and 10% fat

You need to immediately replenish your glycogen stores after training, and nothing beats Dextrose for that action. Combine that with some Whey and you have a Golden combo.

i usually take a whey protein shake about 15 mins BEFORE my workout. reason being that the aminos will hit the bloodstream about 30 mins later right when i'm in the middle of my workout. when my muscles are craving the nourishment, they'll get it immediately.

post-workout, i pretty much follow what kronk does.
75g dextrose
40g whey protein
200 mg r-ALA
vit C & E

about 2 hours later, i'll have a "real" meal consisting of some chicken and some sort of carb.

good advice except that 75-100g carbs post workout may be slightly too much. i think 50g should suffice.

i only wait a half hour after that and consume similar proprotions as Kronk.

Why do you have to wait 30 min-1 hour before you get a real meal??

because after a grueling session your body need a lot of nutrients. the post workout meal (frutcose and protein isolates) is a must but its absorbed very fast and thus the meal 30 minutes after.

Why dont you eat after 10 min?
WHy this 30min-1 hour window?
Any logical reason?

I was wondering also why do one have to wait 30 min to one hour before he eats any real food..Why not right away after one has his protein shake?

there's absolutely no problem with pounding your post workout mix then wait 10 minutes and consume a meal (it would have to be low fat) but unless you have a home gym i doubt you can manage to find that healthy meal within 10 minutes.

I have a whey shake 2 seconds after my last rep, then it takes me about 30-45 minutes till I get home, clean up and eat. Keep in mind I dont really eat carbs and come home to a few whole eggs plus extra whites.

I have a post workout smoothie within 30-40 minutes of working out in the gym. Then I follow that up with peaut butter & honey on wheat in approximately 30 minutes for some extra protein and carbs because the whey will absorb so quickly. just my two cents

It has to do with gastric emptying time. Chances are that your post-workout shake is pretty substantial in volume (like 24-32 oz). All this fluid doesn't just dump out of the stomach into the intestines at once. The stomach 'trickles' it into the small intestine a bit at a time.

As far as gastric emptying times goes, this occurs pretty quickly, paling only to pure water or low concentration (under @ 7%) carb drinks. However, if you add a whole-food meal to the stomach while the shake is still in there, and especially if the meal has any fat content, it is going to drastically slow down the gastric emptying rate. ...which would defeat the purpose of trying to get the simple sugars and whey into the bloodstream ASAP.
