Quick ?....I've been training lately around 6pm, so I'm curious on an issue.

If I hit a big whey, oats, creatine, gly., amino, etc. shake when I'm done (around 7:15), it usually prevents me from eating for at least an hour.......now, I've been crashing around 9pm lately, cause I'm in the office at the crack of dawn.....is it affordable to just have another shake, with maybe some nuts and casein protein before bed? Guess my ? is, do any of you guys have 2 shakes to top off the night, or do you insist on incorporating a full meal? I think my digestive system (which is taxed after training hard) will thank me for it............help?
 
this goes back to the whole thing about whether or not the real food is better.. if you are of the opinion that it is then you're going to have a whole bunch of people objecting to what you suggested.

Personally, I think you will be fine. As long as it's casein protein and you're adding some fats to it, I can't figure out why it would matter either way (except that you're missing out on the 'thermic effect' of food raising your metabolism, but if we're trying to gain weight, not that big of a deal is it?)

On another note, if it helps/allows you to get to sleep faster or have a better chance of sleeping through the night, that extra time sleeping, which is crucial the night you lift, could offset any negatives which only having a shake before bed could produce.
 
I've been doing exactly what you are saying with the shakes for about two weeks. I don't like eating a big meal before bed and it seems to be working well. I've dropped 1% BF in the two weeks, so far.
 
Well, my goals are not to shed bf right now..........but, I'm glad that it is working for you.....maybe I'll toss in some nuts or veggies........what do your 2 shakes consist of?
 
Post workout is whey with oats. I get that at about 8:30 pm. At 10 pm I do another shake with casein usually with some almonds. Thats my last meal before bed.
 
Damn bro...that sounds like exactly what I wanted to do.....how much oats? Almonds? Although my 2nd one may be a little bit more volume, as I have a feeling I'm gonna be hungry!!!!!!! Maybe the 2nd will be 2 scoops, some splenda and skim milk, some peanut butter and a side of J-E-L-L-O......LOL.........
 
I like to use the PB on the second one too. Fills me up a little right before bed. Sugar free jello is the best too!!
 
7% isnt fun...trust me.......you get too weirded out, as everything you eat blurs your definition, or so you think.........+ any lower and the twitches come........how are you testing you %? Not worried about the late night oats or almonds, then I take it.........
 
Right now I'm having a guy at the gym test the BF with a caliper. But they are getting a new test that supposedly pust some type of laser into your bicep or something like that. I didn't really understand it, but they're gonna have it this week.

I ordered some dextrose so I'm gonna start substituting the oats with the dextrose and taking the almonds out before bed. I'm gonna do that for a couple weeks starting Monday. What do you think?
 
For me? I wouldnt make the switch...........When trying to get into contest prep condition, I actually stop the dextr., as my body can't handle all that simple sugar......I think you're are better off with the oats...........as for the almonds, I eat 3 cups (at least ) of peanuts every night...............no ill effects. but remeber, its me....some will tell you otherwise, I think you got the right idea now.............

Tell me, 2 shakes keep you satisfied throughout the night?
 
I'm gonna try and it see how my body reacts. I might be back to eating oats 2 weeks if I don't see what I want.

And Yes, the 2 shakes satisfies me. Sometimes if I get hungry, I'll eat a little bit of turkey in between the shakes, just to hold me over.

I think here he means 3 servings of nuts, about 1/2 to 3/4 of 1 cup.. 3 cups of nuts every night would be almost 3,000 calories.

I also eat 3 servings of nuts per day and it only helps me.
 
bran - I said I eat 3 CUPS of peanuts and that's what I mean............3 cups.......3 cups........3 cups..........at least..............granted, 3 cups is still shelled, so when I snap the shells it may be 1 cup, but none the less, 3 big handfulls................kappesh?
