This poll was supposed to be multiple choice.

I have searched for hours on this with no luck. I am pissed that after trying HST for 8 weeks I didn't gain shit, diet was great . I want to f..king get bigger and I am tired of messing around. I am 31 5'10 and 200-205 lbs at 10% natural and have only done one 2week cycle ever. Anyway I am wanting to get huge now with gear and long cycles. A long time ago I did a 4day split. Mon-Tues / Thurs-Fri routine. I split the body in half and did half on Monday and the other half on Tues. Then Thurs Fri was a repeat. So every body part got it 2x a week. My question is how many sets per bodypart is average and how many times a week for each body part is most common?

Your help is appreciated. I know I have to find something that works for me but I want to know what the serious guys are doing on average.

I tried to make this a multiple choice poll but evidently it didn't work. If you guys can just reply with the amount of times that you train each bodypart per week. Thanks. This type of thread should be a sticky in the training board to let people see what others are doing besides what they see in the gym close to them and to get an idea where they are compared to other BB.

Well, I started HST last week, but before that I was doing 5x5,3x5, 5x3 workouts. I made the best gains going 3x5 followed by a 1x8 on my compound lifts. Then I would do an accessory excerise(sometimes 2) with 2 sets of 8-10 reps. I lifted 4 times a week with each muscle group getting one day a week. I gained about 20 pounds in a year.

Why are you going to HST? I followed it exactly and even did 3 sets per body part for some. I know I was not stimulating my muscles enough with that routine. Hopefully you will have luck with it.

Just because I have been doing the same thing for so long I needed a change. My lifting partner started it this summer and really likes it. I am skeptical of the routine too, but I wanted to give it a try. If it doesnt work I can always go back.

I do 10 sets fot the main groups. Shoulders get 12, because I like to do 4 sets of 2 different exercises, for each Deltoid head. As far as frequency, my routine goes like this: I lift M, T, Th, F during the week. I have a six-day routine though, which dictates that each muscle get 9 days rest in between workouts. I have experimented with several routines previously, and didn't grow until I switched into more of a rest-first attitude towards my workouts. "Rest-first" referring to the time in between groups being worked, rather than resting too often, as it might sound initially.

Day 1: Quads.
Day 2: Chest/Abs.
Day 3: Back/Traps.
Day 4: Arms/Forearms.
Day 5: Hamstrings/Calves.
Day 6: Shoulders/Neck.

Gunter Shlierkamps routine is similar in structure, but I think he only rests one day per week(Sunday), so that he still is hitting groups once every 7 days. I need more rest, obviously, than someone like him.

My routines focus first & foremost on starting out with one or two heavy, basic, compound- lifts for whatever muscle group(s) I am training that day. Those first 1 or 2 lifts will be the ones where I try to focus the most exertion, as I believe that they are the lifts that will most increase your strength, thus equally effecting mass as well. The rest of the routine focuses on what I call the "shapers" or isolators, and focus moreso on form & fuction(as well as more repetitions) rather than lower reps, for strength.

Yes, HST seems odd, but it does work, although it is just for size mostly. After 2wks off, did my first HST cycle and gained fine.
If you do more than 2 sets per part though, your returns are diminished. I did one set per part, and occaisionally 2 sets and it worked fine.
----But.....people are different.
I'm about to do a 5x5 type routine now to increase strength and still get some size. Best of luck to ya.
