Suicide is frowned upon by people for the same basic reason. You are removing one more person that could contribute to the race as a whole.
Religion needs the numbers to stay above the ranks of a cult - the money is good too. They mask it with things that sound better, because reality is not something find religion for - they are fleeing reality to be a part of a dream.
Government needs you to stick around so that you can fight in wars and pay taxes.
Those in your bloodline want you to stay around because they know they are supposed to feel that way, which is likely driven by an instinct to spread one's seed far and wide.
In the end, whether you check out early or stick around a lot longer - the only things that will leave a mark for a long time are those that will leave one infamous.
Do something good, nobody remembers. Do something truly evil, and nobody will forget.
So if you do check out, decide if you care if anyone else remembers or not and then act accordingly prior to the final exit.
