Pledge of Allegiance IS Unconstitutional!!!!!!!!!!!!

This is a great thread guys- good debate here..

I have to side with decem on this one though- although you all have valid points...
I dont consider myself to be practicing any religion and neither is my daughter thus far... its meaningless to me to say "Under God" Im not saying that because its meaningless - that she shouldnt just recited it like I did growing up- to humor the people who that means something to- but if she doesnt have to- all the better to have her say something that is meaningful to her and I both...

I am all for those not wanting to participating in it, not having too. But I think the debate here is whether it should be abolished entirely from the schools, which I don't believe it should be. Should "they" quit making students use the prefixs of Mr. and Mrs. because a certain percentage doesn't believe in it....?

Where is dgreenhill when you need him????:D

I'm still trying to make a final decision on this one. I'm not a religious person in any way, shape, or form, but "under God" has never really bothered me that much. If I were forced to say it, now that would piss me off. I'll have to ponder this one a little. I have the feeling that references to God in government will one day be seen as archaic pieces of our history.

Oh well - those of you who respect your Pledge of Allegience, be sure to include the words "UNDER GOD" with much enthusiasm and defiance the next time you say it in a group. Encourage your children to say our Pledge, the real Pledge, in school.

I don't know what legal basis is being used to declare the Pledge unconstitutional. Where does it say in the Constitution that no one can say that we are one nation under God? Show me.

This politically correct BS needs to stop, everyone wants the world to be gray & dull where we please everyone w/out offending anyone. You know what, who cares if you don't believe in god or anyone for that matter. Nobody is making you say the god damn pledge! It burns me up to see or hear shit like this! Everyone is entitled to their opinion but, look at where all this "try not to offend people" shit is getting us. Our kids are drug addicts and sexually active by the time they are 11yrs old. They run wild & parent are losing control. They do not take school seriously, crime rate is up, including murder. People in general are rude & have no respect for others. I say take it back to the old days. Who cares if it's politically incorrect or offensive to some, it instilled values in the youth and everyone for that matter. Bottom line is, if you don't like it, don't say it. To me someone is either with us or against us, there is no gray area. If you don't like our great country then get the hell out & try to find somewhere else wher you are allowed this much freedom. Equal rights my ass! Inmates with cable TV, college degrees and free training what kinda shit is this. Treating terrorist POWs like party guests, get the fuck outta here, they deserve less than what they are getting. What about the people that died because these asshole blew them up while trying to earn a dollar to take care of their families! Where are their rights? What about the rights who have fought so hard and died to defend this pledge that you now wish to attempt to take away from them. This is obsurd & I truly hope that it is shot down in the end. Bunch of communist hethens!

FYI - I did 5yrs protecting & serving this great country, what have you ever done for it?

I hope all the musicians, actors, athlets and every single believing person in this nation says god, under god, because of god, in god we trust, the pledge over & over again! I'm not religious at all but, this really pisses me off!

you might find it interesting that in the 50's (I think 1956) Congress added the "under God" part.

the pledge has been around for awhile - but the God part was added.
The God part is what the issue is with, not the pledge.

either way, I don't give a shit, I think it is a waste and likely a publicity stunt done by the lawyer.

Amendment I
Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press; or the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the Government for a redress of grievances.

I was watching an O'reilly interview last night and a law professor said that anyone was free to add in "under God" when reciting the pledge of allegiance. It just won't be included in the official version and won't be required in the recital. It doesn't matter though, because as pissed off as Congress is, this ruling will be overturned.
