George this is a plea to you, I respect you as a businessman and I am thankful for the board you have created. But after talking to many board members the pop-up ads are just not working. Besides the obvious annoying factor, many of us access the board at school or work, and frankly having a pop-up that says “pay for pink” or ‘Elite sells gear” can cause quite a stir,. I know you attempting to create revenue for the board and your sponsors, but they seem to be having an adverse effect. I believe the happiness of your members and customers is the most important factor in business, and these pop-up ads have angered the masses.

Just some thoughts-

In defense of the students using lab computers:
Generally they do not have the rights to install software.

In fact, many work places do not give their users those privilages.

Not working? Why? Because they're an inconvenience to you? The pop ups are not aimed at existing board members. They are aimed at potential paying customers, which most of the existing members are not. Whether it works or not will be determined by how it affects revenue, and that will take some time.

Adverse effect? On whom exactly? Do you mean that the non-paying, non-contributing board members are upset? IMO, the happiness of those board members is a distant second on the priority list to gaining the revenue needed to support this board.

This is how I see it.

The newbies may get annoyed at the fact that this board has constant popups (no other big board I know have them) and move onto another board - or not visit as often. The contant non-paying memebers, just install software to block them seing as how they spend a lot of there time here anyhow. The paying plat members don't get them. Who is really seing them? If someone doesn't want to pay for pink or ect.. they prob won't want to when asked 20 more times by the popups.
 
George, Im gonna buy your protein no matter what pops up, But it WOULD be great if there were no pop ups

But we are a distant second in his book, which to me in the way that he worded it, means the same thing!

I've never seen a mod on this board who was not perfectly capable of speaking for him or herself. Those words are your own, no one else's. Stand by them. If you disagree with what I say, then defend your point. Don't put it on someone else. That's not like you at all.

Who said you don't mean shit? My whole point was that if you want to use this site without contributing anything, that's fine. That's what it's here for. But don't expect your opinion to mean much when money-making ideas inconvenience you. I think people forget that George is in business to make money first, like any good businessman is. You want your opinion to matter more? Make it matter by contributing in some way. If not, fine. But don't bitch when things come up that you don't like.

A few popups are such a small price to pay for all of this excellent and FREE information. Yes. They are annoying, but so is planning six or seven meals every day. The benefit far outweighs the inconvenience. For those of you who cannot install software on your machines (students and restricted employees), I recommend that you make friends with <Alt><F4>.

I bring the board down with "neg" huh. I see. I haven't yet resorted to name-calling or the other desperate act of the old "your stats are pathetic so I'm right and you're wrong" bit. So before that little tirade goes any further, I officially admit that I am not as pretty as you are. That being said, if it's within your ability to stick to the subject at hand, please do so. If not, I have better things to do.

I'm just saying that you have to look at this from a business perspective. From a business perspective, wealthy paying customers have more influence on how a business is run than regular paying customers. And regular paying customers have more influence than non-paying customers. It's a fact of life. It is nothing personal towards anyone.

This board is a business, and it is (has to be) run like one to survive. Other bigger boards such as the ones running off online stores or companies - already have a steady primary source of income, their boards serve as more of a convience.

Elite is the biggest board that I know, with 26k + members - I can understand the problems he has been having and the extra funds needed. But a non-paying member is essentially a potential member, so keeping the board clean of pop-ups would be a good idea to keep newer/existing members pleased - as well as the lot of non-paying members that supply the great info that keep these boards alive and a exellent place to get advice.

There are many other ways to get income on the web - George is a smart business man, its just that the pop-up idea is not flying well with many members - and like some others I used to consider this place free of such annoyances. If I really wanted such a product/service as advertised, chances are by now I would have clicked on the on-board ad not play a constant battle of (alt+f4) when I am elsewhere, and have to run special software when at home.

I didn't get that at all. Think of it like voting. If you didn't vote in the last election, your right to bitch -- while important and protected -- stands firmly behind those that did. Plat. members and people who buy MQ products (ie voting with dollars) get to stand at the front of the line.

Ironically, I'm not a big fan of the pop-ups myself. My only point here is that if I weren't contributing anything to this board, I'd think twice before criticizing it. That's all.

Also, does alt+f4 work the same way as ctrl+w?

If you buy George's products, then you are a contributor. I didn't mean to imply that only platinum members have input. I meant anyone who contributes anything, including those who buy products.

As for the fact of life, yes. Without turning this into a rich vs poor thread, yes. I think it's fair.

The point I poorly made is that it has nothing to do with how much or little the the opinion counts -- they count equally (important and protected). The "standing in line metaphor" was meant to represent the order in which people will get heard. If you've done something of value to someone in the past, aren't they more willing to return the favor? Same principle, just add commerce.

Pop-Up ads are very annoying, everyone hates them, and I do not even think they're effective. Most people close them before they even read what it says.

I have to agree popups are anoying as hell,but at the same time
this forum doesn't pay for it's self,would it not be a better option to have an add banner at the bottom or on top of the main page instead?

I will say this once, you have know clue who i am or what i have done in my life. You don't know me, or what i have achieved and who i have helped. Ask the people on this board who have gotten to know me in a more personal setting, they will tell you. Don't strike with ignorance.
