Please help with my diet...please.

I posted a few times on the diet discussion board regarding my diet and it not working at all. SteelWeaver was very, very sweet and said that some of you ladies wouldn't mind helping me out.

i tried NYC for the first time and it really isn't working. i know that its not a miracle drug but i see really no results...at all. it has only been like 2-3 weeks but i feel like i had a much run with the adipokinetix. i know they don't make it anymore and that NYC is pretty much the same make-up of Adipo.

my question is...i don't know what i am doing wrong. i mean, i figured that not eating would really work. but, it's not! i know that you need protein to burn fat and i am just wondering if you guys could help me work out some sorta diet. also, as far as the working out goes....should i run everyday? i am a teacher so i would be running at like 5 in the morning..in the pitch black. anyone have any suggestions?
please?!?!
thank you so much!

Yes, diet please. Also, are you doing any kind of training besides running? Weights maybe?

For the record, NYC doesn't work all that great if you don't follow a reasonably low carb diet, and there's not really enough yohimbine in it to get great results unless you take 3 or 4 tablets at once (which would be too much norephedrine).

5:00 am running in the chilly NE darkness - doesn't sound appealing. :-)

Definitely post your current diet - even if it's just what you ate today. Also, let us know what kind of gym facilities you have access to, if any at all. Thanks!

Hello Chloe! Well! I'm so glad you came over - it's really hard for a girl to get any kind of decent info on the diet board - there are so many different opinions there, and most of the types of diets those guys are following seem to work better for guys, somehow. The ladies here really know what they're talking about - you're in good hands here :)

I'll echo everyone else here, though, and ask you to post up your diet in detail: what EXACTLY are you eating most days - I know you said fruit and salad all day, but please tell us the times, amounts, types, etc.

Also, pleeease say you ARE weight training? This will help to prevent muscle loss whilst dieting, which will help to keep your metabolism up and give you a very nice shape once the fat comes off :D

Don't worry about the number of pounds - that's meaningless - look in the mirror for progress, or have a body fat % test. And what's your height and weight?

wow...thanks

wow...thanks so much guys....
well, i will try my best to explain what i eat. i wake-up at 5:45 in the morning and don't eat until about 11:45. then if i do eat, i eat those tuna lunch packs...its tuna, and a low-fat mayo.
see, and here is my problem...i hardly drink. I KNOW, I HAVE to drink tons of water, but i am just never thirsty.
the problem is, when i get home from work at like 3:30 or so, i am starving and basically eat shit. stuff anywhere from cookies to ice cream. but then there are other days when i will eat fruit and have some cucumber salad.
when 4:00 rolls around, i will go for a run. i usually run for about 30 minutes or so.
i know, my workout sucks and i am sure my eating sucks.

about a year ago, i was a psycho if i didn't go to the gym EVERY single night. then i would do my 30-45 minutes of cardio, lat pull-downs, ab class, tri's, bi's, inner and outter thighs, etc. i would do high reps of low weights so that i wouldn't get "bulky," but nice and lean. i mean, i was looking so good and then i got a job and my lifestyle changed.
i mean, even now though, i see myself getting really moody. i am in a bad mood lately and i know that it's because of the way i look. if i don't workout, i feel like i am a fat heffer.

thanks for the time girls. i mean, i know you're suppose to eat like 6 meals a day or something and i know i can. but i really don't know what to eat and when to eat it. ya know? thanks again so much for your help....
i appreciate it more than you know. i am ready to stop eating those cookies when i get home from work and snack on some celery. :)

thanks....

Hi Cloe

If you eat frequent small meals of healthy food you’ll have a more stable energy level and it will be easier to resist junk food and binge eating. But you know that, right? The question is how to get in a routine that works for you. I can tell you mine, but everyone is different. One way to start is to log what you eat, pick out your favorites that meet the criteria of healthy, convenient, & right calorie and macro-nutrient content to meet your goals. School to work is a tough transition for both diet & exercise, but you can do it with a little planning & discipline. Here is a good website. http://www.nal.usda.gov/fnic/cgi-bin/nut_search.pl. This is a pretty typical day for me when I'm not trying to gain weight.

Breakfast
oatmeal
1/2 cup yogurt
strawberries
2Tbs flax seed oil

Snack
protein powder shake
2 tbl almond butter

Lunch
5 oz chicken breast
green beans
bell peppers & snow peas

Snack
protein powder shake

Dinner
salmon
salad w/vinaigrette
green beans

Also a recovery drink post-workout, which is most days.

wow, Candi, that is awesome. thanks so much for taking the time to offer advice...

can i ask you a question? the flax seed oil. many people have recomended it to me in the past as an aid to loosing weight on the boards. i wasn't sure though, am i suppose to add it to my food? (i know that's a dumb question but would you add that right to your yogurt?)
also, i have never heard of almond butter! (See, there's the dumb again. : ) anyway, is there a good protein shake that you recommend? i bought labradas lean body shakes and they made me gag! i tried to chug it and i almost got sick. which ones do you use?

i am a teacher and that is why i have that funny schedule...i am also going to be beginning grad classes in a few months too so thats another reason why i want to get on the gun here.
thanks so much for the help though...i really appreciate it.

Well---where to start ?

1. Water is your friend, start your day with it and continue till you have had 1/2 to 1 gallon. Make it easy by always having it with you.

2. Food is your friend, start your day with it and you won't be eating so much shit.

3. Protein is your friend, start your day with it and have some lean source every time you eat. Meat is a good thing, choose lean cuts, eggs, cottage cheese, etc.

4. Veggies are your friend, especially those high in fiber. Have these with your lean proteins.

5. Good Fats are your friends these are found in flaxseed oil, tuna, salmon and walnuts.

6. Cucumber salad and fruit suck for a meal.

7. Get over not lifting heavy unless you want to stay how you are now. Not to flame you but please!!!!! I 'm tiny compared to other women my age (44) and size, and I lift as heavy. Your comment on lifting light with high reps is a real myth. We see lots of fat women doing that and you know what -they are still fat!

8. Prepare your food ahead of time and you will make all of this much easier on yourself.

Since you are an educator, it time for you do some real learning. Use the search button up top of the page. This board has no shortage of great info, but you must be willing to do the work.

Good Luck and scroll down the next couple of pages and you can find the info given others that will also work for you.-Valerie

I started taking the flaxseed oil to help with asthma, actually, but it's a good source of healthy fats. Lots of bodybuilders like it. Some people say it helps them drop a couple % body fat but I haven't noticed it. A good reference on dietary fats is "Fats that Heal, Fats That Kill" by Udo Erasmus. Flaxseed oil has to be kept refridgerated, it goes rancid very easily. I take it straight, from a shot glass, to get it over with rather than mix it with food. You can't cook with it, but you could try salad dressing. I had to try a few brands to find one that tastes OK. I have more fats in my diet than some of the people on this board. It works for me, but everyone's different. Almond butter is like peanut butter but made from almonds. You could substitute raw almonds, or natural peanut butter. Raw nuts might be a good snack for you, as a teacher. Just throw them in your mouth when you have a minute. They won't cause your blood sugar to spike & then crash, and the fats will help you not feel hungry.

I hear you about the protein drinks. Some powders are nasty! Try Next Protein's Aria. It's 50% whey, 50% soy. My favorite right now it Biotest Chocolate Low Carb Grow. but it's expensive. When you find one you like DPSnutrition.com has good prices.

Morning cardio before breakfast works really good for me to lean up. I get up at 4, run in the dark, but in least in California it's not cold. I have to eat a good breakfast before I go to work or I just can't function at all. Do you like to cook? Start a thread asking for favorite recipies!

Have you heard about catabolism? Did you know that when you are at catabolic state your body burns muscle and uses fat for energy giving as result that it tends to accumulate more fat?

Well it is horrifying that you wake up at 5:45 and have spend 6 hours without any food!!! Even if you had the greatest diet... or you have the greatest fat burning drug... if you enter catabolic state all effort is useless! sad but it's true. You also induce catabolic state when you do not hydrate your body. So basically get your diet, so that you dont spend more than 2-3 hours without food. Drink water even if your not thristy. And dont let your body burn your muscle instead of the fat.
