I have got to say, this game is FRICKEN AWSOME! Anyone else in the beta test? I can't beleive how smooth it runs on my computer, considering my computer sucks... and its so fun, combining a FPS, with a Rpg... Its like a more organized Tribes, on a MUCH larger scale. around 2-3k people on the server im using most of the time.
 
Grrr...I am trying to avoid playing games as I am going to school full time and working about 35 hours right now...yet everywhere I turn and everyone on my aim list is like "DUDE PLANETSIDE IS SWEET!!!! OMGOM~OM~O~M~"

But Pay-to-play? Dunno 'bout that.
 
Do you actually have to pay to play the game? Or is there some way around that bullshit? I know there cracks/hacks for multiplayer games like Battlefield 1942 and a few others....Everquest maybe (and it's subscription-based, much like Planetside).

DW, how's the lag? I figure it would be waaaaaaaaay up there with 2-3K players per server.

The lag has been bad at times since they are still working on the servers.. but I've actually had some times when it runs almost seamless. Far superior to the EQ servers.. (I used to be a EQ nerd.. sadly). Runs so smoothly it makes you feel like your there with the wraiths driving by and the Reapers zooming past your head. I love dropping down in my heavy armor suit into a enemy base from a dropship and just starting to slaughter people left and right.
 
I'm in the beta. I've been in for a few days now. You can find me on citrine as Bios. stealth/Adv. hack.

I'd hate to say it, but as it stands right now, this game has nothing to keep me interested to pay 15 bucks a month for.

Why should I pay $ every month to play a FPS with no point? While it is nice to go up in levels, by level 8 I have all the skills I want or need. I have found that the most constructive, interesting battles I have fought have been:

*take over base*
*hack*
*defend for 15 minutes*
*attack new base*
*hack*
*base we hacked last time gets hacked by enemy*
*defend for 15 minutes*
*trade bases over and over with enemy*

Then I think to myself "why"? Why should I care about these bases? Why shouldn't I just don my stealth suit, join a squad, and hang out in a corner somewhere and just soak up the XP?

It is totally, and completely POINTLESS.

I can play FPS games like 1942 and Army for free. The only thing that would make me pay for planetside would be stronger character development, and maybe monthly contests to make me feel like I'm playing for a purpose, and not just for the sake of killing a digital avatar.

It's not enough for me to pay for yet.. but, I do think its still early.. and they may be adding some good stuff.
 
drunken', they're only a month away from retail..not even. I've been in a bunch of betas, and trust me when I say nothing major ever happens this close to the end. The only thing they're changing that they have made clear is something to do with CEP and the Matrixing idea of the bases, meaning you cannot just attack any base, it has to be directly connected to a base that your army controls. This is to establish a more solid front line to the game and bring more action together.

I doubt it will make deadline of next month... There are still far too many wrinkles to iron out. Trust me... I find more all the time.. but its still fun. What games do you know that actually make street date? if that were true, it would be out over a year and a half ago when it was supposed to come out.

sure.. it could only last a few weeks.. but it depends on what they find, and what they can fix.. it could also last much longer, I have aswell been in beta's.. and they often last longer than originally intended.
 
Whoa...I just checked my station login and apparently I was accepted to beta...I don't have access to my old e-mail so I never knew. I'll download this crap tonight.
 
Well just my fucking luck, I forgot Sony Betas are distributed via CD and I just moved so mine got send out to my old apartment. :mad:

Son't suppose any of you Negros with CDs want to send me burned copies if I pay for the shipping?

let's see, what MMORPG beta's do i know of that had juicy complaints around launch and still went gold..

Very very few MMORPG's extend their betas longer than what they fele is necessary. They figure they'll work it all out after release.

I actually hink it's a good idea...2 of the biggest genres combined into one. However, they're not really pulling it off too well, IMO.
 
BI did the CD come with a key or do you register Beta using your Login/Password to the beta site? Also did you have to pay for the CD?

Bastard, I've probably applied for about 5 beta tests and never once been accepted. I've tried everything too, LIEING saying i've beta tested tons of games, a few games, no games, have tons of time to play, not much time to play, the best pc, medicore pc....I just don't get it. :bawling:

thats cause theres no demo, and never will be a demo, because it's online only.

What we are playing is a beta test. It's something that we signed up for months ago. We basically get to play the somewhat unfinished game for free while reporting bugs and such.
