Dev I got your CD and thanks... it's Windows XP Pro SP 1

However, I had it in my CD rom drive and when I booted nothing happened, Windows just loaded.

So I tried to click on it manually through My Computer and it said:

"Windows can't be installed because the version of Windows on your computer is newer than the version you are trying to install."



It also said "Warning, if you delete the version of Windows on your computer, your settings and whatever cannot be recovered."

But it didn't give me an option to delete Windows.

God I hate this thing.

lol. ok restart your computer with the disk in it. when the dell boot screen pops up, push f8 or f12 and go into the setup. make sure your optical drive, not hard drive is your first boot device. then follow the onscreen instructions

yep, install it on that one. when it asks if you want to delete the current windows installation, pick yes. and do a regular (not quick) ntfs format

When you're done, don't go on a network with anyone (especially the school network) before you install all the security upgrades and SP2.

you'll have to go to dell's website and and download your drivers you need also, if you don't have that disk too

thank you, I was planning on installing my antivirus and firewall before doing that, but I hadn't thought of SP2 and windows security upgrades. thanks a lot
