pinched sciatic nerve...out of gym for 2 weeks...

wow...this really sucks! 2 weeks ago, out of nowhere, i got these pains in my lower back. after a week of stretching, not knowing what the problem was, i realized that it wasn't getting any better or any worse. so i went to the doctor this week on monday and he hit me with an anti-inflamitory in the lower back and now i'm on 800mg/motrin 3x/day. this helps 100% no pain as long as i'm taking the pills.

now...it's been 2 weeks since i hit the gym. i'm also ending my PCT now so this happened at a bad time. my question is...you think it's OK to gop back to the gym while taking the anti-inflamitories or should i just let it rest? i mean...it's not the muscle but i don't need any issues with my nerves either. infortunately...i don't know much in this department.

thanks for any help bros.

how did he come up with that diagnosis? did he run any tests? well, if it's truly a pinched nerve, that is a condition that may never heal... massage, physical therapy or chiropractic care could help... I know from personal experience that pinched nerves in the upper back / shoulder area are alleviated with chiro care... if it bothers you for much longer, you might want to see a specialist to confirm the problem and get further advice

BRO, im in the same situation. I have had a pinched nerve for almost 3 months now. I had to end my cycle early cuz i was out of the gym for 3 weeks. Im back in the gym working out hard! I still have the pinched never that keeps me from doing certain work-outs. You just have to suck it up bro. Im not telling you its okay to work-out. you know your body better than anyone here. Sometimes it hurts like a bitch, sometimes its alright. I just started my new cycle, hopefully it will help the healing process. Just start light and see how your body can take it bro.

Injury = rest ... you have your entire life to build muscle , injuries you can make worse

You think a pinched nerve is bad ? trying hitting it with a pin !! they'll be scaping your ass off of venus ...lol

well...he's a great doctor and he knows my body better that i do. wen i call him and describe the issue...he has always been correct with his diagnosis. he told me to see if the anti-inflamatories work, if so...it's probably a pinched nerve and should go away after 10days of continuous use use.

being that 5 minutes after the injection...i was fine...and i am fine when taking the anti inflamitories...then thats probably what it is. if the pain continues or comes back after the anti-inflamitories. then i will be going for an MRI to check everything out.

I pinched that nerve a few weeks ago, made my hip tight as hell. But I just went to the chiropractor and its fine after a couple adjustments. I only missed 1 or 2 workouts that week.

Yes ART is good but only if you can find a good chiro, that's the thing about chiropractors, some are way better then others. Try finding a holistic chiropractor, they're a little different then the traditional approach, very good.

good to know bro...thanks! :)

I had sciatica! For more than a year, don't end up like me.

I could not stand up, sit down, it was all very uncomfortable. The only thing that helped me was physicall therapy.

TAKE THE REST, if you feel good now that is a good thing. Just wait the two weeks, no heavy lifting at home or work. No squats or deads for at least a cuple weeks after that. Sciatica is the worst and one of the most painfull back injuries one can suffer.

I fail to understand why people think more drugs are a good solution to mechanical and kinetic dysfunctions like these that almost always are to blame for these types of nerve irritations. I mean if you never address the problem at its source its going to come back even if the drugs provide temporary relief.

The MDs should be held accountable for not establishing relationships with chiros, and referring patients to them. I was talking to somebody the other day ... she had severe pain in the neck bothered her for EIGHT YEARS. Doctors gave her drugs, suggested surgery, then of course physical therapy, and lastly psychiatric counseling. Bascially she just gave up after getting this run around from several different attempts with different docs. After ALL THAT she finally visited a chiropractor. ONE ADJUSTMENT FIXED. And lets not even talk about the money that was wasted.

My sciatic flares up from time to time. My chiropracter said it because of muscle imbalance. In my particular situation, I neglect ab training while I hammer my back. I was given a regiment of stretches to do and it stops the pain every time. PM me if anyone is interested and I will go into detail

* UPDATE * (for hose who are interested)

well...i'm in my 6th day of my anti-inflamitories (800mg/motrin/3xday). as long as i take the motrin...i am 100% fine. when i don't take it...the pain and discomfort come back. not even close to the original pain and discomfort though. I'd say that my doc hit it on the head again. i'm gonna go the whole 10 days taking the motrin.

once the 10 days is up...i'll update again. gonna hit the gym tonight though. i feel like shit since i haven't gone :)

You Bro's seem to understand this better topic.

What nerve would it be with the following symptoms. It's in my lower back and flares up from tme to time. The last time I went to stretch to try to ease it up somehow and it was a huge mistake. The pain went all the way from my back down my ass and almost all the way down my leg (outside thigh). My ass cheek felt like it was on fire. Something like a hot knife cuting through it.

Is that the sciatic nerve?

my guess is yes...but that's only a guess and you should really go see a doctor. no reason to suffer if there can be something that you can do to help it. i think i got lucky and it's nothing serious...something that was able to be straghtened out with anti-inflamatories. i think some of the bro's here have it a lot worse than i do.

Yes, SI joints, when there is dysfunction usualy have a sclerotogenous referal(bone) sympyoms, most common buttocks to the outer thigh and stopping above knee. Sciatic and nerve dysfunction will follow the nerves (dermatomal), which will go down the back of the leg and out through the toes.

This becomes an issue at least once a year of not more often. Should I be seeing a particular kind of doctor? Is there even anything the can do?

Go see a chiropractor and then starting stabalizing your hip flexors/rotators/extensors...its usualy a quick fix

maybe a bulged disc. I had that, lots of pain, running down the leg. eventually had back surgery, and am now better than before.
