Pilates?

Does it work good? I was thinking of signing up for some classes through the city, I've seen the commercials, and heard some good things. Give me some feedback from those who have tried it please?? Thanks!
:D

I do them almost daily. They help you with balance and flexibility, but don't do too much for building or cardio if that is what you are looking for. You will definitly feel them work, but by the time you feel it, you are off to the next move. I do them in the morning to wake up. It is basically like an aerobics class and a yoga class in one... They help reach muscles that you wouldn't get to with free weights, but again, aren't going to build them, just strengthen and stretch.

Kali: do you use a video or class? I do not have a schedule but I do occasionally follow a pilates video... I do cardio most mornings- would before or after be better for doing pilates?? :)

Mrs T, when your husband gets back from CA, he'll show you a much better pre AND post cardio exercise :D :p ;)

I actually have the dvds because I can never make it to classes. They have seperate ones for upper body, thighs & buns, abs, and fat burning. I usually just do a different one everyday. I would do them after weights since it will help you stretch out everything you have just worked. I usually just match them up: upper body on chest day, buns/thighs on leg day and so on.

Actually, that picture is my friend Tiffany and I when we did a shoot together. I am the blonde.

Its just my opinion but nothing beats weight training and cardio.

I do pilates on dvd too, they dont have a studio on campus, so I have to look like a complete dorkus and do it in my dorm room, I just hope the door isnt open and some cuties are walking by, my roomie Tanya likes to keep the door open sometimes

Pilates is a type of functional/core training and a component of a workout program, not a replacement for cardio and/or lifting.

Exactly. I love it...I started my return to weight training with yoga and pilates...after a few months, I felt my core muscles were strong enough to support my spine in the weight room (I'm in my late thirties and don't wish to herniate anything, thanks). I continue to take a class twice a week.

I took 1 class to see if I liked it, which I did but didn't want to commit to a schedule. It was harder than I thought but I enjoyed it.

It felt to me as if I was getting my stretching in & having fun and it was different than the usual cardio & weight routine.

Its just that I haven't worked out normally in almost a year. I feel so weak its ridiculous! I'll start out with some pilates videos, then as soon as I feel stronger and more comfortable, I'll get back into my weight-training. ;)
