Am i lean enough to start bulking? I've read you should get down to a six pack first but i can't for the life of me get rid of the fat over my abs. I've got 1-5 weeks left on ckd so maybe that will change, i dunno. Thanks for any advice

bulk

your a wee man but we where all wee men once...

definitely bulk - but bulk cleanly, the summer is coming...
lots of protein. low gi carbs...
Creatine would help too....

heh im in the process of cutting up, im a little bigger than a wee man but i gotta cut...... i bulked too sloppily and felt bad about myself :/ plus i haven't seen my abs in god knows how long ( i was a REAL wee man then, we are talking single digit age) now they are coming out to play so to speak :) I look forward to seeing them in the next 3-4 weeks if my CKD continues as it has been (maybe sooner)

Back to the poster of this topic..... you look really skinny and i think you should bulk. you do have some bf but if you lose more in your stomach do you have the abs to show off?? being a twig isn't what i think we all are going for. Go put on some slabs of meat!

I'd say around 12-13% BF.

If you continue to cut, you will be ripepd but you will be extremely thin. Good I guess if you want to be a runway model (If you meet other specifications also). But to most people you will look sickly.

I'd say bulk up when you;re done with your CKD.. Go to Massmonsters.com and hit the "Mr. X's articles section" and read bulking up basics parts one and two.

Thanks for the quick replies. So bulk it is then. I think i'll cut my ckd short to 4 weeks instead of 8. Is mr. x's bulking basics the preferred way to bulk? I'm trying to bulk while adding a minimal amount of fat.
I'm assuming when I end my ckd, i should slowly re introduce carbs before going into a full on bulk cycle? On my last week, should i cut out the carb up and instead start slowly adding carbs into my diet?

Just from your pic, I would go ahead and put together a bulking plan (Mr. X's, etc.) and after you have it planned out go ahead and start.

Even if you do put on a little fat during the bulk up, it will come off easier after gaining some more muscle. Just from the pic, I dont think you'll gain much fat though.

Plus most people new to lifting seriously make good gains pretty quickly.

Anyway,
Best of luck!!

10-12% sounds right.

but dude.........

i hope that when you refer to bulking you're not implying steroid use because you are FAR and AWAY from any juice!

Just finished reading bulking up basics one and two and I have all my numbers worked out. One thing that confused me a little bit, in bulking up basics 2, mr x says
You can actually be very creative and make up your own ways to cycle your calories so they work for your specific body-type and metabolism. These are basic rule-of-thumb ratios and they do not bring about the same results for everyone.

How do you adjust this diet for different body types? Would you just adjust the overall calories, or do you need to tweak the ratios? Would you guys say I'm more of a mesomorph, or ectomorph?

no way bro, i'm staying all natural. I dont want to get too huge, just like one of the guys on the magazine covers

I wouldn't worry about turning into a monster just yet...

And don't worry about technicalities. Do this:

1. Go to the gym and lift as heavy weights as you can
2. Go home and eat steaks, chicken, salmon, potatoes, rice, and veggies.
3. Repeat.

I cannot seriously believe you want to diet! You should spend a good year or two gaining some serious size, you're an ectomorph so food is your friend!!

if only i had yer bodyfat bro, im jealous, haha. its so hard for me to cut cuz of my lousy genetics and metabolism. but i bust my ass the get big instead. the bigger the better. i think ill cut up in about 3 months before i move to california.

if only it were that simple. i put on fat really easily. Actually this is the skinniest i've ever been. I weighed 250 six months ago. I wish i had before pics. Thats why i've been dieting. I didnt start off like this.
So lets say i didnt worry about the details and aimed for around 3800 calories on training days, 2000 calories on non training days and ate a diet that consisted mostly of meat, potatoes and protein shakes. How long do you think it would be before I started seeing even slight positive gains? 6 months? a year? I'm afraid I may put all the fat back on before i even start building any muscle!
Should i use creatine? Or would it be better for me to wait until i have some muscle before i try to blow it up?
thanks for the replies. I actually wasnt aware that i was so skinny. It's kinda cool considering i've been fat all my life but it sucks to know i'm an ectomorph :(

Make sure to do LOTS of compound movements, especially squats and deadlifts. Those lifts release lots of growth hormone, which burns bodyfat. If you want more growth hormone in your body, do some high intenisty cardio, such as sprints.

Just eat clean!!!

From my experiences:

When I first started to take weightlifting/diet seriously I was caught up in ratios, bulking vs cutting, and all that little shit, just like you. I would bulk for a while (of course not a clean bulk) then go on a cutting diet; just to lose the fat I gained during my bulking diet, only to end up right where I started. Of course I was making some gains, but nothing like I anticipated. I always wanted to maintain a certain leaness, which really wasthe reason I was making aany progress

Recently, I got sick and tired of being caught up with all the details and decided to train heavy and eat as much as I can cleanly. At first, I expected to gain a lot of fat with all the calories I was eating- I was eating around 4000 calories a day. But to my suprise after 16 weeks of not watching how much I ate and instead just monitored the types of foods I ate, the results were astounding. My lifts have all improved exponentially, lbm has steadily increased, and my bf has barely increased at all. My advice to you is to do exactly this

There's no way you should think about cutting, leave that to the pros. I think you're in the same boat as me and want to look like the guys on health magazines, not too big big but a little size and cut. Just train hard, eat clean (no exceptions) and I promise you will be happy with the results. Worry about cutting and all those other details later. I know it's been said before, but the more lbm you have the easier to it'll be to cut.

Trust me, I totally understand where you're coming from when you say "I'm afraid I may put all the fat back on before i even start building any muscle! " I was the same way. But the only way that'll happen is if you eat the wrong foods, not because you're eating more. THere's no reason to not start taking creatine, it will only help, there's no reson to wait. It's not gonna "blow" you up, although I wish it would...lol.
If you need any help with your bulking diet don't hesitate to ask...pm me

you dont need to eat yourself into an early gravw, just make sure what you eat is clean (low GI carbs, low saturated fat), and that the calories you eat in total are not too much. i think Mr.X put a bulking manual up on thiis front page, take a look

even without it, aim to eat calories that are enough to make your lifts and size go up without ridculous levelks of fat. at this stage i;d bulk if i were you, just aim to add size :)
