Physical Reactions to Stress

Hey All

I wanted to pick a few brains on something if that's ok . . .

When you've been through really stressful times in the past, do you get any extreme physical reactions to the way you're feeling?

I've been feeling pretty down about things lately and my stress levels have gone through the roof at times, and I've just been feeling pretty shitty overall. Most of the time I've felt really tired and just wanted to go to bed a lot, and at times I was getting some bleeding in between periods which always seemed to correlate with the times when I felt worst. I also used to get a rash on the inside of my right elbow whenever I felt bad.

I'm having a horrible weekend right now, and am feeling pretty upset, and in line with this I've started to get a rash on my right arm. Each time I manage to get hold of myself it starts to fade, however if I get upset it just seems to flare up and go really red.

Anyone ever get anything like this? I think I'm just falling apart a bit!

Thanks girls x

go see a doctor......

I've been to see my doctor quite a few times in the past about the bleeding etc, and that has got better over the months and doesn't really happen now.

It used to completely correlate with times where I was tired or stressed out, but I changed the contraceptive tablet I was taking and really concentrated on being well overall, and that seemed to have gotten better.

The rash seems to have a mind of its own though

cezza, I hear you. Yes, stress can have a terrible impact on our health. I went through an extremely stressful year in 2008 and my health (even though I was eating healthy and working out like crazy) was in the dumps. My immune system was shot.

Find a doctor that is willing to listen to what you are experiencing (not just the bleeding or rash). The other emotions you are having concern more than any of the physical symptoms. I don't want to say that I know what you are going through - but I have experienced something similar.

About the rash. My former spouse had the exact same thing. A rash would appear during stressful times or occasions. It itched like crazy and became more inflamed as stress increased. It was a vicious cycle. The rash came about due to stress, then you become even more stressed because you have a rash and don't know what it is and is worsens. I recall one night on a vacation we had to tie his arm to his leg so that he wouldn't dig at the rashes at night. He has seen many doctors with very little results, although the knew it was caused by stress. We have learned that it can be treated, not prevented. One doctor even gave him a medicine to take before working out. The sweat would push the medicine through his pores, cleansing them. Well, that did not work.

He treats his with a prescription cortisone cream. Because he can spot it pretty easily now, the moment the rash begins to appear he applies the cream (he literally had it with him at all times). This has helped dramatically. He still gets the rashes but they are now controlled.

I hope this helps. Hang in there - it is so frustrating to be experiencing all that!

I've felt the exact same way as you. I actually think this is a common thing for women and men of course. My friend is currently having bleeding problems and people tell her it's because of stress, but I don't think so. I hang around her a lot, she has some stresses, but she is a pretty overall happy person, I can't believe it's because of stress, if so, then that's unfair, that little of stress causes that. Does anyone have a better idea of other things that might be wrong?
