I assume it's not an iPhone, but no matter what it is, I'd say unless you want a new phone anyway, get it looked at by a tech. For instance, a smashed iPhone screen can be replaced for about $40 labor, and you can get an aftermarket screen for around $60. Or even a genuine OEM screen used in perfect shape on eBay from somebody who changed to a custom colored screen... Sometimes as little as $20. If you have any experience with fine work and electronics, you can do the job yourself. But it's easy to rip ribbon cables and blow things, so don't do it if you aren't experienced. YouTube has plenty of procedure videos to change that screen. And I'm sure the same is true for most other phones, and I bet the parts are WAY cheaper for other types than iPhones.

Gregs gone through 3 screens..they just crack. I swear the frame on the thing flexes too much and they just crack. He doesn't even abuse the thing.
 
the motorola droid HD is supposedly the most durable but I broke one of those.

buying an otter box and paying full retail has helped me keep from breaking my galaxy 3 for quite a while now. get the otter box and you'll be gtg
