As I have preached in EF News for years, when you buy herbal supplements, you want to look for "standardized extracts" like the standardized herbals found in regular Phenyltropic. But when you see HCl, you know you are getting a drug and not a supplement and Phenyltropic PPA, containing 25mg of 1R, 2S Norephedrine HCl, 3.75mg of Yohimbine HCl, 40mg of aspirin, and 90mg of caffeine, is entirely drug based.
Now, I don't mean to scare you, Phenyltropic PPA is drug based, but if you use it as directed, Phenyltropic PPA is both safe and highly effective. PPA itself, is an ingredient in hundreds of medications including Alka-Seltzer, Comtrex, Dimetapp, Robitussin, and Tavist-D. PPA is effective in relieving nasal congestion and it is popular in diet pills because it suppresses the appetite.
So why then did the FDA work so hard to keep PPA from manufacturers?
Well, there are the official reasons, and then there are the suspicions of those companies that sold PPA. Officially, a Yale study found a very small increase in the risk of stroke among women taking PPA and an even smaller risk among men. How small an increased risk? Miniscule. In fact, six billion PPA doses are sold every year in the United States. That's the official reason, but I suspect the real reason is really two fold. PPA is highly effective for muscle-sparing fat loss and is also effective as a cough and cold medication. But PPA is inexpensive compared to other newer diet and cold pharmaceuticals that require a doctor's prescription. I suspect that the big drug companies pushed for the ban because they do not make any money from an effective over-the-counter weight loss products and cough and cold medication.
My other suspicion is that the FDA was encouraged by the DEA to get Phenylpropanolamine off the market, because when synthesized, it can be used to make crystal methamphetamine -- also know as speed. Rest assured, PPA does give you an energy boost, but it is not speed. In fact, many dieters prefer PPA to ephedrine, because although close cousins, PPA provides a more consistent, sustained energy and longer fat burning effect than ephedrine whose "buzz" is too much for some users.
So how does Phenyltropic PPA work to increase energy and promote fat loss?
A study appearing in the International Journal Of Obesity described the effects of a caffeine/ephedrine stack on 99 patients who had taken the drug combination for 50 weeks. The dosage used was 20 mg of ephedrine and 200 mg of caffeine three times a day. A dramatic reduction in body fat took place during the initial 24 weeks of the study. Although the body fat reduction was not as pronounced during the second 24-week period, fat reduction still took place. Fortunately, lean body mass was preserved. No withdrawal symptoms occurred upon cessation of the use of these two drugs and no serious side effects were observed.
PPA (Norephedrine) and caffeine work synergistically to drastically increase the body's production of the hormones adrenaline and noradrenaline. These hormones bind to the various receptors in the body, of which we are mainly interested in the A2, B2, and B3 receptors. These receptors play an important role in fat loss and fat mobilization.
Now this is a little complicated, but read through this and you will realize why it is so important to understand. The B2 and the B3 receptors are responsible for the mobilization and burning of adipose (fat) tissue. These are the receptors that we want to stimulate because these receptors influence fat loss in a positive way. By stimulating these receptors with caffeine and PPA, we increase the metabolism of fat and we slightly elevate the body's temperature. This elevation in the body's temperature is called thermogenesis.
Thermogenesis is a fancy way of saying raised body temperature. Thermogenesis is a good thing for the dieter, because it promotes fat loss. Unfortunately, it is hard to achieve a prolonged state of thermogenesis and this explains why fat loss that was significant at first decreases over time.
Try taking your body's temperature first thing upon waking in the morning. While dieting, if your waking temperature is between 97.8 and 98.2 degrees Fahrenheit, you are in a fat burning mode. A few individuals with optimal metabolism will have a body temperature of higher than 98.2, but eventually all dieters will get below the optimal range and will find that fat burning becomes much more difficult. On almost any diet, body temperature decreases over time.
Here's a summary of what is actually happening when you diet with PPA and caffeine.
Initially, the B2 and B3 receptors are stimulated causing an increased production of adrenaline and noradrenaline.
This increased production raises the body's temperature.
Lots of fat is lost in the cells that are high in B1 receptors.
However, very little fat is lost in the cells that have many A2 receptors. The A2 receptors are concentrated in the abs and love handles in men and on the hips and thighs in women.
As dieting continues, noradrenaline levels drop and the body's temperature begins to fall along with it.
As temperature drops over time, fat loss slows.
In the remaining fat cells, the number of A2 receptors increases, compared to B2 and B3 receptors, and the body will chose to burn amino acids from muscle tissue for fuel instead of fat.
So, the best way to prevent the slow down in fat loss would be to block the A2 receptors from accepting noradrenaline.
Research has shown that the A2 receptor blocks the mobilization of adipose (fat) tissue -- so in terms of fat-loss, this receptor is the bad guy. This receptor gives women a hard time losing fat -- especially in their lower body - no matter how hard they diet. And in men, the concentration of this receptor in the abdominal region and around the love handles gives guys a hard time burning fat around the waist - no matter how hard they diet.
In order to block the ugly A2 receptor, Mass Quantities pioneered the use of Yohimbine HCl in conjunction with Mass Quantities' PPA modified version of the ECA stack. Why did you stop selling Phenyltropic PPA? That was by far the highest quality fat burner on the market. I cut my body fat in half over a 3 month time period and was finally able to take my shirt off and not be embarrassed. Since then I've tried all the supposed "top" of the line products like Hydroxycut, Stacker, Ripped Fuel, Xenadrine and even the new Cutting Gel garbage. Mass Quantities has gone up against the FDA on several occasions and lost every time. I would be surprised if the FDA does not succeed eventually at completely banning Phenyltropic PPA like they have with several other Mass Quantities supplements. An A2 antagonist will allow for increased lipolysis or fat break down in the problem areas and it potentiates or make stronger the fat burning effects of both caffeine and ephedrine. Why did you stop selling Phenyltropic PPA? That was by far the highest quality fat burner on the market. I cut my body fat in half over a 3 month time period and was finally able to take my shirt off and not be embarrassed. Since then I've tried all the supposed "top" of the line products like Hydroxycut, Stacker, Ripped Fuel, Xenadrine and even the new Cutting Gel garbage. At this point, you may be wondering if Phenyltropic PPA will stick around now that it is available again. Unfortunately, at this point, I would have to say that I doubt it. Mass Quantities has gone up against the FDA on several occasions and lost every time. I would be surprised if the FDA does not succeed eventually at completely banning Phenyltropic PPA like they have with several other Mass Quantities supplements. But until that time comes, I hope you will take advantage of Phenyltropic PPA's re-release and stock up. How To Take
Begin with one tablet taken one or two times daily. Work your way up to three tablets a day. Listen to your body! You'll know when it's working so don't take more than you need to.
