Peter Jackson's "Hobbit" supposed to be better than The LOTR trilogy.

so they are making the hobbit into a movie. is it tolkiens hobbit or this other guy's version. if it's not tolkien i'll wait til it comes to starz

I never read any of the books but is the Hobbit going to be like the 70's cartoon movie?

I am very surprised to learn that you do not read that often.

Fuck, I was hoping you wouldn't read this post. Oh well, you caught me. I admit to not reading Tolkien. I am a dumbass.

Very cool.

Wonder why they always do the order of these things ass-backwards? (e.g. Star Wars, Manhunter, etc ...)

Well, they never planned on making "The Hobbit" first, primarily because if they did they would not have that great of a success at the box office. Making the most interesting movies from a series first, guarantees you a larger fan base. This allows you to later release those other not as great movies while still knowing that all the same people will come out and pay to see them. That's just what I think

Just read this:

Ian McKellen spoke with Time Magazine about his role as Gandalf in the Lord of the Rings movies, aswell as his hopes to star in a TV series based on The Hobbit.

"Gandalf goes on such a huge journey. The rustic magician is brought back to life, and he's suddenly more vigorous, single-minded. It's very Shakespearean; many of his characters go on spiritual journeys. I was worried that losing [Gandalf's] charm and his naughtiness when he returns from the dead might diminish his popularity, but he's stayed so popular I've been asked to go back and shoot some more scenes for the third film."

If fans can't get enough of the old wizard, neither can McKellen, who refuses to accept that the part ends with the trilogy's final installment. He has a grand idea for the prequel: "I want to play Gandalf again, in The Hobbit. I've asked Peter Jackson if he'll produce the prequel as a huge, yearlong television series. All those different strands to the story seem perfect for TV, and we'd do every scene of it. It could be marvelous."

That would be awesome.

That would be pretty slick. Hope that happens. Beats reality
$!@# ing TV, that's for sure!

The books are awsome. There's a few things in them that are not in the movies (Tom Bombadil, etc.). It didnt hurt the movies though. I kinda want to read them again. The second and third time through is supposed to be much better as you notice so much more.
