Yea he didn't wanna be smeared even though he was. I'm sure you would rather be banned from baseball than arrested also. The entire situation was before my time but I have read about it. They made an example out of him even though they knew gambling has been part of baseball and all sports since their inception. It's bullshit to shun(sp?) Pete Rose all these years when they knew and know that they will never stop gambling. I fell sorry for the guy. Unless you grew up loving, breathing, and dreaming of playing baseball, it's hard to comprehend the concequences and pain he has endured.
