How much does this run on the average and what info can anyone out there give me on how it usually is to be employed througha gym? Hours, pay, etc...any info you can give me. Thanks.

well i know, in NYC. a Registered dietitician, is way different then just getting certified in nutrition, the R.D. has to have a masters in nutrition , 900hrs internship and take a RD test every 4 yrs, ( this is what im going for =]) So RD make more then a "certified nutritionist"

That's why you generally don't see trainers handing out diets at gyms. Most won't touch a diet due to the liability issues. Trainers like those who provide contest prep are probably also not "certified" in nutrition but they usually have competition diet experience. They would also be operating on the assumption that their client doesn't have any health issues going into the prep and wouldn't be getting that liability issue going. One time I've signed a waiver for any liability. Other trainers I've not actually had a formal contract with -- if I did happen to develop a health issue in resposne to that person's diet, I imagine I could sue them in some capacity, not that they would have any $ to sue for tho.

If I were a trainer in a gym and someone came to me for a diet - I'm not sure how I would respond to that -- I might give them some guidelines and maybe send them online or to a program like the Body For Life thing so that I don't carry the liability but rather they pursue it on their own. Otherwise if they were actually dealing w/ obesity issues or somethign to that level, I'd send them to their doctor first to get a licensed dietician to help them or at least get a clearance. If they have issues like diabetes or something I would also go the same route.

I'd be interested to hear what a commercial gym like Gold's or World Gym has as their policy in that area tho.
