Personal Trainer In A Small Town

I am interested in becoming a PT in my hometown. The total population is about 20,000, not including the State College located in the town and the smaller towns around it. I am 35 with a college degree. I am currently in sales and marketing. I have yet to get a certificate. I wanted to operated independtly and have equipment at my house for the clients to come to me, or go to their gym or house. Marketing I think will be the biggest issue for a small town but was curious on what else I may need to look at. Also what type of rates should I charge. Looking at selling packages over individual rates.

always charge more if you train them in your home or at theirs.the reason behind this is they are not having to pay a gym membership so that saves them some.use that as a point of sale.i charge 35 phr at gyms and 50 hr in home.as far as package rates go offer them 3,6,8,10,12 week packages with small savings on each.like 6 sessions for $195. and so forth.run ads at gyms and in the local paper and if your a nice looking person have a pic with your ad.a lot of peaple want to know what the trainer looks like before they will even consider training with them.

Your damn right I'm good looking. Thanks for the advice. Just can't see charging $35 an hour in a small town. I guess it's better to charge more and lower rates than increase them. If you can keep a few clients year after year the money seems pretty good.

you would be suprised by what some peaple will pay for a good personal trainer.i train in 2 seperate towns and get the same rate in both.one town only has 3000 and the other has 75000.so it can be done
