I know it could not have been from to much water cause I had none. I thought I was focusing enough on my breathing. Sometimes I get these sharp pains in my side while running. Any one know what it could be cause by?

Im sure it does but I am in very good shape actually.

Are you a fairly new runner? I've read in magazines that that can happen to fairly new runners......stop & hold your arms above your head, breathe in thru your nose & out thru your mouth for a few minutes..... Sometimes you've gotta just run thru the pain....

More than likely it's a diaphramatic cramp. The advice given above should clear it up.

The cause? If you're new to running, even if you are in excellent shape, it'll happen. Controlled breathing will stop it, and conditioning will prevent it.

Another theory in right-sided cramps while running is stress on the liver. As you run, if you tend to bounce up and down quite a bit, the liver takes a beating as it's suspended by ligaments. Just a theory. Personally, I go with the cramping one myself :)

I have actually been doing interval sprints for a while. It only happens though when I take this course in the neighborhood I live in. There is a big hill I run up. Then shortly after I get the cramp every time. But it doesnt happen if I ru a flat surface. Ill focus on my breathing tomorrow when I do it. Thanks.
For me I have found it easier to breath in and out of the mouth in short breaths. I guess I hae it wrong. When I breath in through the nost it burns. Thanks for the advice!

what also may help is this, when your feeling the pain, stick your fingers right below it and push up, and hold for a few seconds untill the pain goes away. I get these in long term runs, and this helps.

yes breath through ur nose and out ur mouth escpecially in cold weather. its most likely just a cramp i get these alot too. the best thing to do is stand up tall when ur breathing hard. the number one reason people get this is when people bend over and hold their knees. i know its hard but u got to try to stand up tall. but i dont know if u do this or not.
