PB and Bananas

I really think I need to lose my fear of the "Devil's Food" and eat a few sandwiches daily........what do you guys think about Flax Bread? All natural ingredients and no Hydro. fats, sugars, etc. THinking about a fat chicken breast sandwhich with heavy mustard, onions and lettuce......and maybe a few PB and Bananas for shits and giggles...any thoughts......I'm going to start a VERY clean bulk.........doable?

Anyone eat bread daily? Bread and Protein bars are the two things I've always been a strong advocate of shying away from....can't even remember the last time I had either....now, I'm thinking about incorporating bread (flax or 100% whole grain only) and ABB zero sugar protein bars, 0 sugar, 3-4g of fat...10 net carbs....30g of protein....no hydr. fats...seems like the best one on the market......thoughts?

I love to bake and have been messing around with making a multi-grain bread that is as high in protein and as low in carbs as possible. That means no whole wheat (GI Issues - essentially the same as all-purpose) and stone-ground wheat instead. Using oat flour, rye, flax meal, etc. This way, if I do want to sweeten the bread, I can use Splenda. I can control what type of fat goes into the bread, etc.

It's not something I would eat all the time, but, hey, I love those PB and banana samwiches, too!

BTW, I just made natty peanut butter for the first time. Wow, is it easy to do.

hell ya !!!!!!!!!!

Not exactly health but nothin better than a fried pb and bannanna sandwich. Elvis got me eating them. Not literally but he was the insperation for trying it the first time. I know evreryone wants a body like the king... Sorry for ruining your thread.

Natural peanut butter. You usually find it in health food stores or health food sections of your grocery store. Regular peanut butter (like Skippy/Jif) contains sugar, hydrogenated oils and other unpleasant things. Natural PB is just peanut butter and peanut oil.

Same here. Mmmmmm cashews. I've also seen madedamia (sp?) nut butter.

I've toyed with the idea of trying to make my own someday.

I eat 100% whole wheat (brownsberry) bread daily. It's one of my favorite carb sources actually. I look at it this way. Whole wheat bread isn't the lowest GI carb source, but it's much much better than most carb sources. Besides, it eat alot of lower GI sources - oats, chick peas, peas, whole wheat spaghetti, ect. So I don't see eating some whole wheat bread as being a big problem. If I were cutting, I'd cut back on how much bread I eat, but I still won't eliminate it, regardless of what many think about bread.

100% whole grain bread would be a perfectly fine choice too, and I imagine flax would too. Just look at the ingredients. Don't buy any breads with hydrogenated fats of high fructose corn syrup. And just make sure it's from a whole grain source of some kind.

As far as protein bars, I really don't see them as worthwhile. The whole net carb thing is kinda deceiving. My understanding is that sugar alcohols behave alot like fructose. Plus, alot of the protein usually comes from hydrolyzed collagen (gelatin).

But in a pinch a protein bar can useful. Like the one you mentioned, just avoid any with hydrogenated fats, sugars, and hydrolyzed collage as part of the protein source. It's better than fast food anway.

2shy, i've also seen almond and hazelnut butter. also, i once saw an expensive juicer that had a feature for making your own nut butter - just put nuts in and a little water. cool!

about natty PB, do most people drain all the oil from the top of the jar when they first open it, or mix it into the PB (smuckers says to do this on the jar)?

mix it in. peanuts are high in monounsaturated fats. if you dump off the oil you lose alot of the healthy fats. not to mention the PB will be like clay once you refrigerate it.

all nut butters are prety good
i use peanut, macadamia and cashew alot
alot of vegan restaurants use almond butter
thickens sauces nicely
also nut flour used to make bread
pretty good
i agree with 2shy i love to cook

i was doing the same except eating whole wheat instead of oat bread. but i'm giving bulking a shot without combining fat and carbs so that's pretty much eliminated natty PB from my diet lately. still eat a banana every couple days. never hurts to get that potassium. as for the bread, well it's still in the diet.
