Para Warthog .45

They're expensive, high recoil and the grip is too big for most people. It's a double stack .45 sub-compact gun. It's a canadian made handgun, high quality but the price tag is definitely exagerated.

hmmmmmmm, it just seemed like a nice tiny weapon, but I haven't found a range that has one for me to test shoot. Do you have any alternative suggestions?

In .45ACP ? Glock 36 (single stack) or Glock 30 (double stack). H&K USP compact too but a bit more pricey. I don't even bother carrying Para here cause I know I wouldn't sell them except to IPSC shooters...

I own one. The model I own is called the nitehog. It is all black with night sites. I have had the pistol for over 6 months and have fired around 500 rounds. I am very impressed with it and it is almost always my condealed carry choice. I choose this over several other smaller framed handguns I own that include S&W J frame 38 plus P, Charter Arms Bulldog 44 special and a Walther 380 PPK/S.

On price. Just like anything else, you get what you pay for. I suggest you check out Paraord.com and you will find that many items that would be considered custome or upgrades are standard in this pistol.

The grips by nature of being a douple stack are wider than a single stack grip of course. But no wider than the first douple stack pistol I owned. In the late 70's I purchased a S&W model 59. It was 9mm and the grips on the Para 45 are no wider that it was. And, btw, that pistol was junk. S&W discontinued it as they sould have. It was the worst 1911 frame I ever shot. Also my wife that has much smaller hands than I has no trouble with the grip size and she enjoys shooting the para.

Back to the warthog. Brand new and out of the box I did have a few feed problems with HP ammo. However, after no more than 200 rounds of FMJ's that problem was solved. I have had no feed problems after the break in. In order to have enough spring to work the slide and make ejections on such a short barrel Para made a double spring settup. IT WORKS GREAT! However, you will have ejection problems with some cheaper ammo that does not have the powder to do the job. This does not mean you will have to go to high end stuff to get it done. Winchester rounds that can be found at any wallmart will work. In fact, that is what I used for break in. Winchest FMJ target loads. So, just stay away from that cheap brand X bargain stuff.

I think the spring system must have something to do with it but recoil is much less than I expected on such a small and lite 45 acp. Groupings at 18 to 20 yards a better than you would ever expect out of a 3 inch barrel. Face it, in most personal protection situations you would be dealing at least this close and most likely closer.

Something else to consider. With only a 3 inch barrel you are going to lose velocity. You can make up for this by going to a smaller grain bullet. I use 165 grain federal hydra shocks. This will not only increase velocity but will decrease recoil.

Bottom line is I am very happy with this pistol and would make buy it again if I had it all to do over again. In fact, it surpassed my expectaions in every way.

Nice write up, too bad you couldn't have put it up a couple of years ago. Strongsmartsexy is no longer with us. RIP SSS Bro.

Cheers,
