Paintball

Generic MALE

New member
My son (13 years of age) wants to start paintball. I was thinking of the Diablo mongoose to start with :
http://paintballoutlet.com/detail.asp?pid=120828

Its a electronic marker. It sells for about $140 through the link, and normally retails around $299. It can fire 13 rounds per sec in auto mode.

Is there much difference between LCD and LED electronic markers. Diablo makes a LCD that has a screen readout on the PSI, mode, number of shots fired etc.

I figured for $140 its a good place to start - not a real cheap gun but also not going to break my wallet at $400+.

Any input or suggestions.

for the price it's not so bad to start out, but for being 13 I would probably buy even cheaper and get him playing for awhile before I would spend that much. I started playing when I was 15 and rented guns up until now(I'll be 24 in a month) Grant it I probably should have bought one when I was 17-18 but back in the late 90's you couldn't just buy one if you were under 18. I actually just bought a bundle on ebay for about $436 which included 3 guns which are fairly modest 2 12oz tanks, and a 32oz tank, a bag to hold some ammo which overall is a large amount for me to drop in considering I have played once in the past year but once I get back to the states I plan on playing more and getting more involved in it. I think it's a great activity for people to get involved in and depending on how your son plays and what his other hobbies are teaches a great deal about teamwork and compettition. I have a 15 year old stepbrother who plays often now and after whipping up on him last time I was home he's gotten pretty good so I hear since he didn't know anything about playing as a team or anything about strategy, but just make sure your son has fun, and has a face mask and a cup. something that offers at least some protection toward his throat and top of his head since he's so young.

at 13, he doesn't need a fancy electronic gun -- because eventually he will end up breaking it or damaging it -- also, you WILL have to buy him a nitrogen system or a high pressure air (HPA) system, NOT CO2....

get him a good reliable gun, such as a Tippmann Model 98 or Spyder series...

if you decide to get a nitro system, there are some cheap and reliable tanks out there.

don't buy cheaply when it comes to the mask and paintballs.
