Asprin, Aleve (Naproxen), and Advil (Ibuprofen) are all NSAIDs....NonSteroidal Anti-Inflammatories. Tylenol (Acetaminophen) is different than all the above. There is research that indicates NSAIDS MAY reduce the effectiveness of the body to repair injuries. The amount of inhibition remains the key question. Taking a couple for very short term is very unlikely to hurt your gains. Also studies have shown that all pain relievers tend to be very ineffective in reducing and preveting DOMS. That said, Tylenol is your best go for pain relief if you are really worried about inhibiting gains. However, Tylenol can be murder on your liver. I wouldn't take it with any oral gear.
Tylenol won't do anything for inhibiting inflammation though. Cutting the pain/inflammation cycle sometimes is the best deal for recovery short term and then let your body heal on its own. So taking advil for 3 months straight probably will hurt your recovery of tendonitis or some other nagging injury and maybe even muscle repair, but taking it for two days won't make a lick of difference.
As far as OTC pain relievers go you only have asprin, acetaminophen, ibuprofen, and naproxen. If you want to grow some poppies at home that's another story.
