Has anyone here ever done barbell hack squats? They're brutal... I was doing sets of 10 with 2 45's and a 25 on each side off the rack... almost passed out on the 2nd set

No, but I tried dumbbell stiff legged deadlifts and I love them. Just doing 20 rep squats nearly kills me sometimes.
 
Do you do them with 1 dumbell held sort of in between your legs? I will probably start doing those again, they are very back safe and effective

I actually thought I made that exercise up after hurting my back along time ago, it was the only way I could do SL deads at the time
 
I have gone as heavy as 485 with Barbell Hacks using a Snatch grip.

I've never seen anyone do that much with them, but I also haven't seen many others do them. I seem to have a knack for them.

I do them from the floor, not the rack. Harder, but more productive, which is generally the nature of training.

As for SLDLs, my working weights are in the 500s, and I use a Barbell for those. Low reps are much more effective than high reps when training the hams, as they are a predominately fast-twitch muscle group.

Keep working them, keep progressing, and you will do very well for yourself, Frackal.

Yes! Hacks are one of the hardest lifts to do period! Lot's of guts! Sounds like you had a awesome workout! If you want to work just on the "Tear Drop!" Grab a 45 and do some isolating Hacks on the side of the Rack!

No, I'll have to try that though. Using the dumbbells seems to be more effective. I can feel the movement more.

The Dumbbell feels better because of the increased ROM. You could switch to 25s or 35s, instead of 45s, too, when using a Barbell.
 
So you guys hold one in each hand then...the way I did it was by taking say a 110 and holding it in between my legs with my hands holding one side of the dumbell which is vertical
