OverWeight and looking for muscle

I scanned the faqs and did a few searches. This did not turn up the information I am seeking. If it has already been delt with please supply me with a link - if possible.

I am over weight 5'11 195. Although I have some muscle tone I am in bad shape. My objective is to tone up, get some muscle and weigh 215-220. I have carefully selected some products to help me meet my objective in a timely fashion. About 5-6 years ago I used to goto the gym and weighed 210. However, for the last 5-6 years all I have done is drink and smoke. My question: Should I try to tone up alittle and allow my body to get back into the swing of things, 3-4 weeks? Or would it be ok to jump back in and my gut and excess body fat will just be taken care of druing the process?

Well at 5'11", I highly doubt you're seriously out of shape or overweight at 195. CArrying some surplus fat and a bit of a gut from drinking maybe, but those are easy to get rid of.

First off, you have to get your diet in order, otherwise you won't get the results you are looking for. Check out the diet forum and see what guy's are eating to get lean.

Secondly, it probaby is a good idea to take it easy the first few weeks and break your body into it. Lift, but don't lift quite as heavy as you can otherwise you may find your self in a world of hurt the day after. I would check at the top of this particular forum and take a look at HST training.

Third, you probably want to do cardio. My advice is too not go overboard with it as it is weight training combined with cardio that produces the best results. 3x a week at a moderate intensity for 30 minutes should wrok for ya.

Fourth, make sure you get a good 8-9 hours sleep every night. It is vital for proper recovery and to get the most from your efforts.

5th, use a quality multi-vitamin/mineral and whey protein powder.

Exactely what kind of products did you buy?

The fact that you used the phrase "tone up" shows you have a lot of reading to do. Continue your searches.

Hey boss - you just posted to be a jackass, huh? What was the purpose of that? Atleast the first response seemed sincere, ty 1st reply. The second response seemed to have an honest question too. If you have any suggested reading please reccomend it. I don't want you to be my shower buddy or trainer - keep this in mind. I understand the internet is no place to hire a trainer. There are well over 10,000 threads on this board to read. If you have 5-10 in mind give me some links. Hell, even if you have 1,000-5,000 in mind give me some links. Anyhow - fuck off. This probably isn't a very good way to get a started here. I thought I found such a nice place too(after the 1st response) But, give me a break, eh? Rather than mock my lack of knowledge give me a hand. If all you can do is be a jackass. Well, do not clutter my thread. Incase you are still lost. . . If I have alot to read reccomend some things I should read.

Results 1 - 10 of about 1,400,000 for "weightlifting"
Results 1 - 10 of about 531,000 for "powerlifting"
esults 1 - 10 of about 13,400,000 for "weight training"

The above information was provided incase you are still unable to comprehend what I am getting at. There is alot of information on the web as well. I was hoping to come here to get some advice from folks who considered themselves 'in the know' - not jackasses  . With that being said I am a newbie seeking advice or direction from those with more knowledge than me. If you have anything that may be helpful I am here to learn.
