HooRah.. HalfCenturian... way to move that iron! 51 is still a kid!

I'm on the same march to a 4 plate bench.

on 375 bench do you actually touch your chest and pause or go to parallel to protect your shoulder. Either is great just curious!

Haven't hit 375 .... YET! ....355 my best 1 Rep Max.

I did do 2 1/2 @ 325 today.... I had a spotter!

Yes. I lift off by myself, come all the way down and touch chest and lock out.

Also, my hands are only 32 inches apart. (thumb and fore-finger)

NO BULLSHIT SHIRT - WITH A 4 FEET WIDE GRIP AND A 5 INCH PRESS.

I could do 475 under those conditions.

375 is my one rep max. I don't always get it reliably yet. I do get 365 reliably. I do a simple tap/ touch on chest and full lock out. I don't wear anything for benching and do my own lift off.

This description is from DaveTSI in the weightlifting forum in a thread on shoulder pain while benching. Thought it would help us here too.

"ok try this next time you bench and see how it feels on your shoulders. Unrack the bar and start in your normal position. When you start your descent you break you elbows first, flaring them outwards. When you reach about 2/3-3/4 of the way down you will start tucking your elbows down towards your feet. This naturally starts the bar down on a lower groove towards your sternum. 1/4-1/2 way down try to flare your lats to transfer the pressure of the weight from your chest/shoulders to your back.... yes i said your back. if you do it correctly you will learn how to bench with your back, it is the correct way to benchpress and alleviates much of the pressure traditional BP places on the joints. Aim to touch your chest at or just below your sternum, pause for a moment and explode off your chest with your back (again feel the lats flaring out). Groove on the way back is the same as the way down, 3/4 of the way up flare your elbows back out and lockout with the triceps."

Very Nice, RW ! That's alot of weight for a guy a half a century old. LOL!

You are WAY bigger and WAY stronger then me. I'm 5'10", 200lbs, 11-12% BF.

400 is the magic number. That one is probably a year away for me.

Thanks HC. At 41 pounds heavier, you are stronger pound for pound. We all work with what we got and do the best we can.

That 4 plate lift is probably 9mos to a year for me too. Gains are slow at this stage unless I got a lot of help. I pushed the deadlift for a new PR last night and now my arm is hurt.

Lookin good guys

It's a lifestyle that keeps you together as you age. You've already committed to a fit, healthy lifestyle. As long as you keep your eye on being your best in all aspects of your life, maintain balance between the various aspects of your life, and keep a positive attitude then you will achieve this goal and many others in your life.

Oh... and I'm an ugly bastard. :)

lol....no worries bro, men are not supposed to be beautiful lol :p

So ... 4 "cookies" it is! Damn that's alot of weight!

Agree on the lifestyle habits. I used to be a fucking wildman. The 70's and 80's are kind of a blur....

It really was Sex, Drugs, and Rock N Roll. And lots of booze.

Now, and for almost 10 years: I don't drink, smoke, do drugs, eat shit food, gamble, or chase women................. Been there - Done that.

That shit will eventually take ANYONE out. I'm not saying you can't do it,
it's a free country....But at some point you have to leave the party.

Agreed... 4 cookies for both of us by June of 2009. It is a lot of weight for us old men.

Totally agree re: gotta leave the party. It's America and one has the right to choose but some choices preclude others. The party lifestyle precludes a long healthy strong life. I live very clean now and love it. I feel so much more on my game now... every sense is sharper.
