Please Scroll Down to See Forums Below I went shooting today up in the hills round here for the first time in like forever.... shot an "M1-Grand"... WW2 rifle 30-06... fucking thing deafened me... I didn't even think of earplugs so I just pulled my hooded sweatshirt up over my ears as tight as possible... it still hurt like fuck, that gun is loud as hell... on a better note we blew up myold TV and a fire extinguisher. Are all guns as loud as this thing was? It was a new one, not an original ww2 one btw.

when i shoot my .38 special it fucks with my ears pretty bad.

nothing wrong w/ .22's they are some of the most fun guns to shoot.
easy to aim, cheap bullets.......on my .22 rifle i have two 30 bullet clips taped together rambo style. my .22 pistol is also a lot of fun.
I let my friends who have never shot a gun before use these alot because they are the easiest to learn with.

You need to wear ear protection no matter what. Whether it's a .22LR or a 50 caliber. It WILL fuck up your ears. Contrary to Analbolic's musings, an explosion is an explosion. Just because it is a little less loud does not mean that you should go without ear-plugs. A hoodie is not going to do jack shit, wel maybe a 1 or 2 db reduction.
And Analbolic and Pitbull, sorry to hear about your firearm incidents. my sympathies.

By that time you are already screwed, Deus. Over time, Just the sound of the firing pin hitting the primer, while using a rifle, is enough to cause damage. Let alone when you discharge 40,000+ psi of exhaust gas in a matter of milliseconds. that is why you feel the concussion effect when you stand next to the rifle. Those 50 cal bastards give off so much concussion, that I can feel them on the other side of the shooting benches (i.e. 50 ft) But even a handgun does that to a smaller extent (except for those .50 AE monsters, i.e. not so smaller extent) ear-plugs are cheap. Hearing aids are not.
