Ot - High Threat Computer Virus Alert!!!

Sorry to post off- topic but you won't be able to read the boards anymore if your computer poops out on you...

I just got a warning by telephone about a virus that destroyed two people's computers this morning.

They received the virus in an email with no subject line and the email was about viruses. This is not to say that this will be the only way it will be transmitted. It opened and executed itself on their computers. (Readme.exe will NOT be visible as an attachment in the email received) Apparently this one has the ability to mail itself out from address books.

Read the press release from the Symantec website:
http://www.symantec.com/avcenter/venc/data/[email protected]

Please update your virus protection software.

Its the SirCam32 virus/worm. It corrupted my CPU 2 months ago.
You get an email asking for advice.

DONT OPEN THE ATTACHMENT!!!!!!!!!

It's not a HIGH THREAT if you're not some idiot who goes opening any file that people you don't know send you without you requesting it.

If you are in someone else's address book it could be considered a high threat.

Mass-Mailer

The worm begins the mass-mailing routine by first searching for email addresses. The worm searches for email addresses in .htm and .html files on the local system. The worm also uses MAPI to iterate through messages in the Inbox of email clients. Any MAPI supporting email clients may be affected including Microsoft Outlook and Outlook Express. The worm uses these email address for the To: and the From: addresses. Thus, the From: addresses will not be from the infected user.

No virus is high threat to the end user unless they don't no much about comps, worst part about the mailing mass mail is bandwith clogging if it cycles over and over.

7 years in on the warez scene no anti-v havn't caught a damn thing where the hell are these viruses.

that's not sircam it's the nimda virus or code green they're calling it. It shutdown our main server at work. All access to the intra and internet were cut off so they could patch it
