Opinions on Roanoke, VA

Offered a pretty decent salary and package to work in Roanoke. Anyone from the area or have opinions on the locale?

From what I have researched so far: cost of living is equal with my prior location, climate is MUCH milder than Ohio - with a change of seasons which is nice, the airport is small and laughable.

Dude, scary town, people just up and disappear from there! Look to the two previous posts for a hint.

you're only 45 mins from Va Tech in Blacksburg...so can see/meet a lot of hotties down there...very quiet town i must say...about 3 1/2 hrs from Wash DC or Richmond, VA....hope you have a 4x4 cause it snows like a mother down there....

I'm from Richmond. Roanoke is a nice area. Virginia as a state is very nice. Weather is usually pretty good. We get some snow, not too much. We get very humid weather too.

I strongly agree with this statement. I'm in Northern VA. The longer I'm here the more I fall in love with Virginia. I hope to see more of it next Spring & Summer.

Yeah, I agree too. The reason I said it though is because Richmond is OK. But Charlottesville and other cities are very nice.

Yes. The City of Alexandria is my favorite city. I want to go Shenandoah (sp?) Valley and the mountains next Spring. I love Williamsburg.

naw man, they were just absorbed into a indigenous tribe and genetic testing proved that theory and argument by local indians years ago, no more mystery

Radford is off the hook in terms of girls.

From my research and talking with people who have lived in Roanoke for the past 10 years - snows are moderate and maybe get hit with a storm 2 to 4 times a season. And their definition of a storm is 6 inches. I lived in PA and OH most of my life, went to school in upstate NY - so this would be a vacation.

Not too much for the college scene anymore. Looking at what the city itself offers. All I need is a gym, and Irish bar (or two), and an airport.

You should be fine then.

Radford at one point was the #1 college w/ the highest HIV per student...well compared to Ohio/Pa, then you should have no problem...
