operation ps3 has hit go time

ok, i will be gone this afternoon waiting to pick up one of our (hopefully) 5 systems. i assembled a team of drunks and stoners to hit up stores in our vicinity, since they don't do much anyways.

i have a HUGE backpack full of high caloric food / snacks, tooth brush and listerine, and several books and a writing pad. i should be good to go.

operation ps3 is definitely a-go.

I am getting myself a Wii. If I can't get one upon the release my girlfriend knows a guy from EB games who can get one 2nd week.

I think that is going to be a fun console.

The unfettered online marketplace for such items as Elvis memorabilia and Ferraris is imposing restrictions on the PS3, which is expected to become one of the hottest holiday gifts when it hits stores Friday.

Only established eBay Inc. vendors — those who have racked up comments from at least 50 previous customers and have positive ratings of at least 98 out of 100 points — can list PS3s before Friday. Each vendor can only list only one PS3 per eBay account.

The listing must include a photo of the pre-order receipt, and the seller must guarantee shipment within 30 days from the date of purchase. Before Friday, PS3s can be listed on eBay only in auction formats — not as "buy it now" items.

Potential buyers, trying to avoid long lines, rain checks and empty-handed sales clerks on Friday, have already bid up PS3s to $2,300. The suggested retail price is $500 for a basic PS3 with a 20-gigabyte drive and $600 for a version with 60 gigabytes, built-in wireless and a Blu-ray DVD player for high-definition video.

Sony Corp (NYSE:SNE - news)., which has already delayed the PS3 launch twice, expects to have 400,000 PS3s available for its U.S. launch. EBay listed 3,144 PS3s or related items by Wednesday morning.

The restrictions, part of eBay's standing policy for all "pre-sale" items, also apply to Nintendo Co.'s competing Wii console, which goes on sale Sunday. EBay had 2,354 listings for Wiis and related items.

Microsoft Corp. launched its
Xbox 360 console last year.

"We've seen a history with highly anticipated game consoles in extremely short supply during their initial launch," eBay spokeswoman Catherine England said. "With the Xbox, we saw a high number of well-intentioned sellers unable to meet obligations due to restricted supply."
 
lmao i drove by bestbuy after i worked out today there was a line of tents next to it.. at least 15 big ass tents all full with kids playing handheld games and shit.. i asked what they were doing.. we are waiting for the ps3 it realeases on friday..

wtf? i dont care how much money you could make doing that there is no way in hell i'd sit out in the hot ass sun and not shower for 3 days for a fucken gaming system..

actually i'd do it for like 20 grand.. but once the ps3's release the prices on ebay are gonna go down some.. not to mention they prob. have a limit of how many you can buy..

the Wii's arent going to be nearly as hard to get as the PS3
we got our shipments in yesterday
8 ps3's and 51 Wii's
and people were lined up outside yesterday at around 1pm

not a superstore.
This is what we are going to do to keep order at work tomorrow
at 7am an hour before we open we are going to go outside give popcorn and coke to the people waiting(who the hell wants popcorn at 7am is beside me)
hand out tickets, we have 2 different color tickets one is dark and one is white
and we have to destroy the other tickets so noone gets ahold of the tickets
and hand out a total of 8 tickets lol
and at 8am the people are escorted inside by cops and they stand in a line and one by one they give us their tickets, and get accessories they need(they ae the first ones able to buy the accessories) then go to the elec register and check out, handing us the tickets as they come up there
we actually are writing down the tickets ona piece of paper, and then ripping the tickets up and throwing them away
and then we move on to the next person
the ps3s we have are the 60g ones

I almost called in sick last night to go camp outside of bestbuy where I live... but I really cant justify buying myself the most expensive "christmas" present of all this year hehe.

Fuck Sony and their "shortage", I despise any company that tries to manipulate me into jumping through hoops to spend my hard earned money on an overpriced system.

Believe me they could produce plenty to supply demand, they just want the free advertising of people camping out for one.

just got back from walmart and best buy and no i didnt have to camp like a loser - i was only able to get 3 out of the 5 i thought i was getting which is ok, havent set one up yet but i will after i get some sleep

nah only spent around 1250 I know a store manager in lay away who smuggled me one, my walmart i guess didn't get any notification on the shipment #s and they got 18 of them and my guy hid one and hes just gonna buy it off me for taking it out the store

Yeah but alot of those people are going to resell them for $1500-2500. And the people who buy them buy them for their own amusement. So I would wager alot are there because they want them.

Don't people realize this is just a marketing ploy? They are going to probably release several hundred thousand a few weeks before christmas and then the shortage will not be nearly as bad. Why pay $2500 for one now when you can wait a month and get one for $500?
 
i touched 10 of them
and 4 out of the 10 didnt buy accessories, so im sure they wont be playing with them
they are out for the money

I want one, but I'm not in a rush because the games I like most (Madden, NHL) won't have their PS3 versions out til' next fall.

Some of us dislike Sony due to their blatant disrespect to the consumer. When they quoted the price of the PS3 the president stated that they could charge that much because we would pay for it.

Game developers also have been complaining about the lack of caring and support when designing for the PS3.

Sadly bad business practices doesn't equal loss of business nowadays because even if people boycott them, there is always other people out there who will buy the product blindly.

This same concept is what also keeps people from playing the PS3 who wants it....instead we have greedy mofos who take them and then resale them on ebay, thus never giving a lot of people the change to enjoy it.

My GF knows a guy at EBgames and he is holding us one next shipment, which should be sometime this week.

Resistance fall of man was the only good game I heard.
Madden is okay, but it's the same game as on the xbox360.
The rest of the games got horrible reviews.
