Do you think the BMR calculators are useful?

does anyone have any success with these?

I've used tons of them, and they all seem VERY VERY high in estimating the # of calories I need.

Is my metabolism that slow, or are they just estimating really high?

I wonder the same thing, I was on a 2000 calorie diet as a 300lb fatty for a while and dropped the weight while going to the gym didn't even lose that much muscle. But according to the BMR cals I could eat 3700 calories a day and maintain, which right now Im bulking on about 3800 cal and Ive put on almost 10lb (although most of it has been muscle). So what these things list my maintenance calories as, is what I use to bulk, if that tells you anything.

Im wondering if my metabolism really is out of wack if I can cut on 2000 and bulk on 4000 which is what people that weigh 100lb less than me are eating.

BMR calculators are made to suit the average market. It's hard / nearly impossible to suit such a standard # for metabolic changes.

weight x 12 = BMR, so you don't need any type of complicated calculator for BMR.

is there a "better" way, using bf%?

i.e. I've been 218 lbs and pretty chubby, as well as being 218 lbs and solid rock. I would assume my BMR would be higher when I was in good shape?
